(I tried posting this in DIY liquids forum, but I don't have permission to post there yet)

I just purchased some VG and some flavors, but I've read that VG is thick, so without using any PG based Nicotine, do I need to add water (or vodka from what I've read)?

and what % would I add?

Also, I haven't got my 510 yet, or my VG (it's at home, I'm at work now) and I've only used GreenSmoke's before, so I don't have any experience doing these things yet, I only know what I've seen in videos and read off this forum.

Any help would be very appreciated, thank you.

purified water or PGA (vodka, everclear) work great for thinning down VG. Also since most of the flavorings are fairly liquid they will thin it down a bit as well. How thin you make it will be up to your personal prefrence. I like my VG 0nic fairly thick as it provides more vapor and a bit of the throat hit that is missing without the PG. Good luck. By the way a great recipe I made is 2 parts VG, 4 parts Raspberry flavor, 2 parts vanilla flavor. Any measure you like will work OZ, tsp, or a eye-dropper, the proportions are what matter. It tastes like a creme brule with raspberries.

Sweet. I guess another question of mine would be that if I just put pure VG on my atty (dripping I believe it is) will the thickness bung up my atty or mess up anything else? or would it be fine to do?

I've read that I need to blow out the primer liquid on the atty and then fill a cart then drip onto the atty, but yea, same question, can I do this all just with VG(no nic, minimal flavor)?

Some PVs will tolerate thick juices better than others. The 510 atty doesn't like it, but it also depends on your cart material. In general, VG only is considered too thick and will make attys work too hard. Better for atty health to cut it. I add 10% 100-proof vodka to my DIY juices. I don't use PG at all other than what is in the flavors, and my flavors are 100% or less. Used to do the really highly flavored juices, but I found some flavors were irritating, so I'm doing just slightly or unflavored juices. To each his own on flavors, but in general if you want your atty to last, and not have to unclog it a lot, best to cut it. As nvsmoker said, purified or distilled water is ok too, but alcohol will boil the juice better than water.

nv, what vanilla flavor do you use? vanilla is an ongoing quest of mine. Not an easy flavor to get right for vaping. your recipe looks to be more flavor than VG or nic-VG unflavored. that's a lot of flavor!!

I've been using straight vg in my 510 with no problems for about 5 or 6 days but I guess I better thin it if thats what you people think. I didn't know there was a problem.

If you are using stock filler (poly) in the cart, you may find that it doesn't give up the VG juice well, and needs to be topped off often from not wicking to the coil properly. As was said, flavors will thin the juice too, so if you are using a fair amount of flavor you may be fine. Short term like a few days seemed ok on the attys, but soon after they would get hot and clogged quite often, shortening their life. Thinning with alcohol makes the flavor "bloom" more too, and makes the nic more available for absorption. Its all a learning journey, and some here love to keep their juices very thick.

Out of curiosity, does straight distilled water work too?

Also, has anyone tried something like water and vicks vaposteam for use when we have a cold, for example? I remember reading someone somewhere that vicks vaporub was the best vape ever, but the vaseline messed the atty....

yes, distilled water is fine. 10-20% is generally the range used. I'm actually trying water instead of alcohol for the first time to see how it works, but many others use it. Not entirely comfortable with inhaling ethanol vapor all the time. So far the only diff is a slightly less sweet vapor, and maybe slightly less flavor than with the vodka, but I've only tried it with one juice.

Many vendors sell a eucalyptus juice, which is what vicks primarily is, as far as I know. Menthol will be similar too. Nhaler sells a "lung juice" that has herbs used in natural medicine that heal the lungs. Several flavors. Several sell vitamin juices for vaping. Vicks itself? Would not do it! Forget about the atty, I don't want to inhale petroleum greases into my lungs. Not the same as rubbing it on you to inhale the aromas, which is what it is designed for.

Hi Kurt,

I realized that the vaporub would mess the atty and my lungs, of course. The vaposteam is a different product for use with vaporizers and for steam inhalation.

The way that person had described it - best vape ever (or similar words) made me think that this may be worth trying and may actually help my lungs....

The whole e-cigarette idea with its parts reminded me something, but this post just re-enforced it...it was a MAD Magazine cartoon of a "modular" cigarette that had separate filters, filled with different kinds of vitamins, medicines and other stuff, that you could screw on to the cigarette and each other...it had a picture of a dude puffing on a cigarette with three feet of filters screwed on!
