I have been vaping for 4 months now and since then havent smoked a cigarette since. I use to be a pack or two a day easily. From what i seen online my nicotine level should be around 18mg. I smoke 6mg sometimes 3 because anything higher i get that hash back of the throat hit. Any tips or advice on that? i smoke a regular basic tank mod and im thinking of switching to a rda very soon and im wondering if that hard throat hit might go away. I smoke my vape constantly throughout the day and i probably depend on the vape more than i depended on cigarettes..does anyone else have that problem?

12 or 18 mg nicotine for 1-2 PAD smoker used to be tge correct answer. Now with Sub Ohm vaping most people can start with 6-9 mg nicotine. Sub ohming the coils are much hotter and vaporizes more juice

I disagree with basing your nicotine level on how much you smoked. You smoked more cigs, not stronger ones. However you are a new vaper and probably need enough nicotine. Throat hit is a subject that faces some ironies. I really like it now but don't want that much nicotine, but when I started I needed the nic but had trouble with the throat hit. Likewise, most start with tobacco and move away, but it's a great flavor for enhancing throat hit. It probably works out just right for younger smokers, but for old throats it's definitely a harder transition.

"regular basic tank mod" isn't very descriptive. If you're using a top coil tank such as an eGo it will be harsher. If you're running anything too hard it will be harsher. If it's fairly high output (>15W or subohm) that's just normal.

Yes, yes, no, yes. The vapor may be warmer but the coils are not hotter, they're bigger. In fact I've seen tests that show modern devices put out lower levels of chemicals such as formaldehyde associated with high temps.

If it aint broke, don't fix it. You are doing fine. 3-6 mg is what many people are starting out with today. A dripper will only give you more of what your getting now. More flavor but more nicotine and more throat hit. Stick with what you have and rejoice in the fact that you are now smoke free!

First @Newbievaper21 you are NO Longer a smoker you vape your nicotine! And what I can suggest is what I did when I switched from Cig-A-Likes to a MOD. I was using 18-24MG and immediately dropped to 6MG but kept a bottle of 18MG around to spike my tank when I needed just a bump more. You doing great in my opinion and the correct answer is only what keeps you off the Killer Sticks!

I'm not a Fan of e-Liquid mg/ml levels based on what/how much you used to Smoke.

Something like 18mg/ml might be Great for Someone using a RTA or Coil Head Tank. But might make their Head Spin when they you used it in an RDA.

Watts, Coil Ohms, Single vs Dual Coils, Type of Coils, Airflow Type, Airflow Amount, ..., these all play a Role in How Much Hit/Nicotine you get. And whether a Hit May or May Not taste Harsh.

I think the Only Way to know what you might like is to Try something.

BTW - "Harshness" in a Hit is Not Always solely due to the Amount of Nicotine in an e-Liquid. I can vape 3mg/ml 70%PG|30%VG and it will taste Much Harsher than 12mg/ml 30%PG|70%VG to me.

For the Nicotine Base I use, its the PG % that makes things Harsh. Not so much the Nicotine mg/ml.

It is not really important how much nicotine is in your juice. It is more interesting how much nicotine you consume per day. For example, if you vape 3 ml of 18 mg juice per day, you consume 54 mg of nicotine daily (bot you body absorbs may be just half of it).
For comparison: smoker on average gets about 1 mg from one cigarette.

Not since your body doesn't absorb the nicotine in ejuice the same as it does in a cig and testing has shown a wide variance in individuals Nic uptake, you can't compare 1mg cig to 1mg ejuice cig at all. Vuse testing showed it took around 45 mg Nic in their ecigs to come close to a blood alchohol level of a cigarette. So basically you should just vape the Nic level that satisfies you for the device that you're using, maybe it's 3 to 6 mg at 10 ml a day for subohming or maybe it's 12 to 36 mg for low power vape pens or mods at 2 to 4 ml a day. And Zoidmans right, higher PG gives a harsher hit. If you're sucking on your mod all the time to get satisfaction your Nic is probably too low. If you get a headache and dizzy it's too high. Listen to your body not me :D

it's better to have lower nic, and vape more, than to have too high of nic that makes your head spin. if 3 and 6 work for you, then use them, the advice with how many decks of smokes per mg in your juice depends on above and subohming and your own personal tastes. it varies from person to person.

Agree generally but I'm more of a minimize the ejuice intake kind of guy so I'm 18 to 24 mg at 2 to 3 ml a day 8w tootle puffer ;) it's always fun walking into a shop where they're chucking big clouds at 3mg Nic and grin at my Triton mini tank riding on an Istick 40 firing at 8W with mild clouds. I look them straight in the eyes and say "24mg, man up guys!" Lol
