Results seen in a lab petrie dish may not translate to real world occurrences.

The only group of people we have data on who have used nicotine long-term without the smoke are Swedish snus users.

Results are contradictory regarding whether snus contributes to an increased risk of age-related diabetes (type-2 diabetes). The largest and most recent Swedish study (Eliason et al, Journal of Internal Medicine 2004) found no verifiably increased risk of age-related diabetes among snus users, although it did find this among smokers.

An expert panel has conducted a risk assessment (published in Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers 2004) of snus and other products. Choosing snus instead of smoking reduces the risk of death from a tobacco-related disease (defined as lung cancer, oral cancer, coronary diseases and premature death) by 90 percent, according to the assessment.

Professors Brad Rodu and Philip Cole:

With Swedish tobacco habits,
200,000 lives would be saved each
year within the EU.

Thus, I believe that advising long-term nicotine product users to stop is quite premature and quite possibly very harmful.

"We want you to stop chewing Nicorette because it might increase your risk of diabetes."

So the chewer complies, relapses to smoking, and ends up with diabetes.

I commended to Traver's first link-

To be safe and in line with the do no harm medical principle, all NRT products should immediately be removed from the market. An expensive product that is extremely ineffective in the long run should be eliminated if it can lead to an increase in diabetes.

Michael, the credibility of you fictional "alien Lovers Society" might not be that questionable if it only reviewed research coming from the left coast where they know how to spin a yarn.

This is a serious blow to the Pharma industry, watch the stocks plummet at market open. NOT
