Hello everyone, as a new vaporer I tried to go nicotine free after two weeks starting vaping and quiting cigs. I noticed I was getting waves of shear tiredness, at times so bad I had to sit or lay down. After googling it I found out it is a symptom of nicotine withdrawls and can last up to six months. I am a helicopter mechanic and must have my wits about me while working on an aircraft so I went back to using nicotine ejuice while working but I also am in need of a surgey. I have a umbilcal hernia where I have a knot on my stomach the size of a large grapefruit but the Doctor insist I be nicotine free for a month before he will operate. My question is has people encountered this before and how long and severe was it. Is there any kind of supliments or anything I can take to counter these withrawl symptoms.

Thanks for the help. Daniel

This is part of the problem I've had with getting my nicotine levels right while quitting the tobacco cigarettes. I seem to be overly sensitive to nicotine when I get too much of it, but going too low I was getting these horrible waves of exhaustion.

Now, I might be through the worst of the withdrawal at this point, but what I did was find the lowest nicotine that curbed the craving for a smoke, and then only used that level when I felt I really needed it. Right now, it's working out to like maybe 1-2ml per day of 1.5mg nicotine. The rest of the time I vape on 0mg.

Really, the way it works out is like this. When I wake in the morning I go for juice with 1.5mg of nicotine in it. Probably go through .5-1ml in that first hour, than switch to 0mg. In the afternoon I use another .5ml of juice with nicotine. And then again at night, after dinner a little more.

So far, doing it that way it really helping with the exhaustion, and I also don't feel like I'm getting too much nicotine either.

For you that number might have to be higher... I realize that 1.5mg is exceedingly low for most people. But you might try switching it up throughout the day. Maybe try .5 to 1ml of 3mg three times a day and see if that helps.

BTW, I'm curious why your doctor wants you off nicotine so badly. I know it can be a constrictor of blood vessels and the best case scenario is you aren't a smoker or nicotine user at all going into a surgery. However, emergency surgeries are done on smokers all the time (smokers getting a whole lot more nicotine than you would likely be getting). I know personally. I just had emergency gallbladder surgery in May, and at that time I was still a 2 PAD smoker. Trust me, I know that's not ideal, but I just wonder why your surgeon is being such a stickler about it.

If you need to quit nicotine (as your doctor says). I would quit. It took my cardiologist telling me if I do not quit smoking I WILL lose my legs. Well, 4 days later I was vaping and haven't had a smoke or chew since. Goodluck with what you do. Nicotine is a [MODERATED] to quit, worse than [MODERATED]. God Bless.

First of all, get a new doctor. The one you have is a jerk. All physicians want us to quit smoking, chewing, whatever, but to use your surgery as blackmail is unethical at best. There is no valid reason to withhold the surgery until you are completely nicotine free. If blood pressure is a problem that can be dealt with short term.

There are several strategies to withdraw from nicotine entirely using vaping. SmokinRabbit has described one. Another is to simply start vaping at , say, 18 mg/ml then step down to 12, then to 6 and eventually 0. The timing will depend on how you respond to the steps.

Thanks for the replys guys. I been thinking seriously about getting another sergeon but I am kinda between a rock and a hard place at the moment. I have an imbilical hernia with a tear in my stomach wall thats is about 10 to 12 inches long. I already had three surgeries that all failed, mostly which was my fault so I can see why the quit smoking part. Now I have a lump the size of a grape fruit sticking out beside my belly button. What this surgeon proposes is a repair inside the stomach cavity as well as a mesh wrap that goes from almost spline across the front to almost the spine on the other side. It is a major surgery and I was already told a min of 9 days in the hospital. I told the doc I quit smoking and neglected to mention I was vaping now. Must of slipped my mind :) Im gonna try y'alls suggestions of weaning off the nicotine. From youtube vids of CBS and ABC news reports, doctors claim nicotine by itself is no worse than coffee so I really dont see the problem but the doc said it will slow the recovery.
