Nope. Don't use protected batteries in any mod as the protection circuit will often interfere with any built in protections your device may have. They are also a couple of mm longer too due to the protection circuit and will often not fit.

I wouldn't recommend using ICR batteries anyway - they are low drain, they are usually low amp and are not considered safe chemistry for use in vaping applications as they can vent explosively.

Good quality IMR or IMR Hybrid batteries are the ones you should be looking for. Save the ICR's for flashlights.

Define ' normal mod '
ICR batteries are no longer recommended for vaping use due to their more volatile chemistry, IMR / hybrid safer chemistry batteries are the best choice.
Protected batteries are not recommended for any regulated apv, the batteries pcb will interfere with the apvs protection circuitry.
Protected batteries will severely limit output when used in a mech.

The is no place for Lithium Cobalt (ICR) batteries in the vaping world anymore. (or LIPO for that matter IMO)

It simply make no sense to me why anyone would want to use them when there are so many safer alternatives.

Absolutely agree. Toss those ICR's (or find something they are suitable for). LIPO as well, although I do have some LiFePO4 batteries (that I got directly from A123) that are the safest ones I know of. (Unfortunately, their 3.3Volt output is a bit problematic.... Not to mention too many counterfeits (i.e. almost all of them) out there!)
