Upfront, I'm a huge fan of cotton over mesh.

Now that we have that out of the way :)....I've never gotten a ton of flavor or throat hit from mesh. I've used 400 & 500 and built what all consider to be the "perfect wick", yet the flavor is still muted in comparison to cotton or even silica. I've done tight wraps, loose wraps and even cotton lined (in the center) and cotton wrapped (on the outside of the wick) and still find the flavor and throat hit from mesh to be a little sub-par for me.

The flavor isn't non-existent, but it has always been muted. This coming from flavors like cinnamon and strong berries, which for all others, are bursting at the brim with flavor and with cotton, requires me to reduce my nicotine levels.

I've also bored the air hole on the RSST out to 1/16", but it'll still just not there for me.

With that said, if you can remove the wick without damaging it, I would give cotton a shot. IMO, there's really no viable substitute for the amount of flavor and throat hit cotton delivers. It's consistent, it's cheap and the only precaution you have to take is making sure not to dry burn it.

Hi guys,

tried doing my first genny today and barely had any flavour from my boba's.
was using 500 ss mesh at 1.6 ohms.

any ideas?

I get lots of flavor out of the RSST, Air hole opened to 1/16 inch, 500 SS mesh (hollow rolled, or straw which ever you want to call it, 4 wrap of 30 gauge Temco kanthal a1 annealed wire and fill plug removed.
First I lightly torch the mesh, then wrap the wire around a plastic rod that perfectly fits the wick hole, remove rod and fire a couple times with no wick, then slid wick into coil, and dry fire it until any hot spots are worked out.

This is odd. Usually it's the wicking that's the problem with Boba's... You sure it's wicking properly? I had no real luck with SS mesh by itself in either my RSST or Ikarus hybrid so I changed my setup to SS rope w/ 500 SS mesh around the top to help it wick better and the flavor jumped off the charts.

What gauge of wire are you using? The small airhole in the RSST can contribute to the harsh throat hit but It could also be a hotspot. Were all of your coils glowing evenly without any hotspots before you added juice? It could also be a wicking problem where you're just not feeding enough liquid to the coil.

32 gauge.
yep they were going evenly.

sorry but i'm pretty new at this.
how would i know if sufficient juice is being fed to the coil?

I have a Cobra clone and the flavor it gives is much more intense than the RSST because of the smaller top cap.

I stuffed cotton in the top cap of my RSST to see if the flavor would improve and it did help.

The problem with using cotton is that it will absorb any juice that gets on the build deck and if you have a good wick it will empty the tank even though the cotton is pressed into the opposite side of the top cap.

There are several reducers available for the RSST, one style fits into the top cap and another becomes part of the build deck, one of these would help improve the flavor.

Check JB Steamworks and Fusions Mods.
