I've read many people say that they got flooding on the protanks after they removed the flavor wicks. I just built a 12 wrap microcoil on 28 gauge with cotton ball. I didn't make a separate flavor wick and I am getting zero flooding. I did try not putting in the silicon cup but I ended up getting ejuice spitting in my mouth a bit.

Anyways wanted to to share my experience. If you do build your own micro coils and use cotton, no need for flavor wicks!

From my use of microcoils I used a single strand of 1mm silica flavor wick in my protank builds, not to stop flooding or gurgling but to stop the juice from splattering up the stem into my mouth. Microcoils explode juice everywhere unlike the regular wrapped coils that don't spit nowhere near as much so a flavor wick is more of a user preference. I use hemp fiber and unbraided ekowool in my builds and bought 1mm silica just for flavor wicking. I haven't used cotton or hemp as a flavor wick since I have miles if silica around.
