Hey everyone,

I'm a brand new vaper! After 7 years wasted killing myself with analogs, I have finally decided to make the switch. It's only been 3 days, but so far so good :)

I had bought a couple of the junky disposable ones from convenience stores a couple of times before taking a trip and I was never even close to satisfied. After a couple of failed attempts, I just let the idea go.

Within the last month or so, several of my smoking colleagues had been making the switch. To non-disposables of course. And they were all really impressed. Some of them were very heavy smokers, much more so than I was so I was instantly intrigued.

Anyways, I bought a starter kit, it's a V3 eGo Spinner with (I believe) a 510 clearomizer? As you can tell, I am EXTREMELY confused with all the parts lol. I'm hoping someone can help me clear everything up!

What is a cartridge? What is the difference between a cartomizer, clearomizer and tank? I try to look at pictures of products for sale but I'm always seeing the -what I think is- the tank. If anyone can help me paint a clearer picture of what everything is, I'd really appreciate it! I'm also very, very open to suggestions and recommendations. I'm in Canada if this helps at all.

Thanks everyone and I am very much looking forward to this new hobby!

First off, welcome and congrats on your vape. It is so confusing because there are just so many options with vape.

Cartridge is basically a cartomizer. They come in prefilled or blank status that you can drip juice in and then vape. There is a little coil inside surrounded by a polly fill which soaks up the juice and distributes to the coil.

A Cartomizer is just a cartridge but usually a bit larger. They can also be placed inside of tanks and you punch holes in the sides of the cartomizer to soak in the juice from the tank. Can carry more juice that way. Together you have a cartomizer tank system like the ibtanked atomizers.

A clearomizer is basically a small tank set up, usually with coils in the top. Some have reblacable coil head, some do not and are disposables after used up.

A tank is basically a larger clearomizer. But there are many types of tank systems, you have changeable coil head tanks, re-buildable tanks, and cartomizer tanks, also dripping tanks. Re-buildable tanks means one wraps their own coils and wicks.

As you become more versed and see what is possible with vape, it will get easier to understand. Vape is always improving and moving forward, so then it continues to become even more confusing, lol.

Basically all vape systems need 3 things,

A battery device for power,

An atomizer to vaporize juice

And juice to vaporize.

There are many choices in all three items and it's a progressive experience that all starts where you are right now. Be sure and check out all the forum, and see what is possible and available. Everything one needs to know is in this forum. Great place.

Vape long and Prosper.

No shame in being new (I am too!). My little piece of advice is to go to a local B&M (brick and mortar) vape shop; I assume there are some in Montreal?

There's nothing like putting your hands on the hardware to give you a grasp of "what it's all about." I probably learned more in 30 minutes in a local vape shop than in 20 hours of reading here (and that's not a slam at ECF... I love this forum).

Ask to see a couple of clearomizers, a couple of cartomizers, etc. Maybe drop a couple of bucks on some juice or a tank as a courtesy, if you want, but don't feel pressured to buy hardware (chances are their prices on hardware will not come close to what you can get on the 'net, so maybe do your actual shopping online)

Rip Trippers, Grimmgreen,Vaporchase and Indoorsmokers on youtube have become my best freinds lately and theres a ton of good people and info right here. Rip and Indoor are the most entertaining. Rip in my opinion put out the most infomational videos. Congrats on quitting, dont let a the different stuff discourage you ,you will find the thing that work for you.

Enjoy the ride - it might seem a little daunting at first but with all the help and info available, you will pick things up pretty quick and before you know it you are on your way. One thing I found is the learning and the journey is half the fun and before you know it you are right in the thick of it. Enjoy.

I was both lucky and unfortunate at the same time when I started over five years ago. We only had the original 510 atomizers with cartridges, so there wasn't a lot of technical stuff to learn at first. At the same time, that technology sucked compared to what's out today. Like others have said, try going to a local shop and get your hands on the stuff. Ask questions. Don't let them talk you into something you don't need and/or want.

Welcome! :)

And I fully agree:

As with every new hobby, there is a certain "technical" vocabulary. You will pick it up quite quickly.

And why on earth should anybody laugh at a new vaper who is not familiar with the vaping terms? Hey - none of us were born with our PV's (personal vaporizers) in our little hands :)

Personal vaporizer = the whole thing, consisting of 1. the battery that delivers the power and 2. the atomizer that makes the vapor. :)

No laughing here. We all started with little to no knowledge. Welcome and good luck!I would say the Baditude Blog linked above is a valuable resource. I will add to it this caveat, some of the terms have been somewhat morphed into a different meaning. For instance the term tank in particular, it used to specifically mean a carto tank that contains juice with a cartomizer inside. Now it is used as a generic term for any type of topper that hold fluid. This is going to create some confusion at first, (I know it did for me) stick with it.
