Until yesterday, I smoked a LOT of cigarettes. I benefit from nicotine's effects and wasn't aware of a viable replacement for tobacco until recently. A friend of a coworker had an e-cigarette and let me try it, and I was impressed. I finally ordered one because the appeal of a vast reduction of health risk plus the major cash savings was really strong.

I still feel like I want to smoke a cigarette all the time, but I hit my ecig instead. It's helping. I tried to smoke an analog and it was harsher than I remembered and I couldn't finish it. I haven't thought about it aside from the fact that I have to change my habits; paper and plant to electronics and mist.

I haven't noticed any withdrawal effects. Then again, I have a headache and I am kind of irritable, but that is par for the course on any given day.

I look at it like I'm embracing the future. Technology is making my life better by allowing me to keep my vices while reducing my health risks.

I worry that it's going to be banned, what with the catch-all "it appeals to children!" label. A. I'd rather my child smoke an e-cig than an analog, because teenagers experiment and they're likely to try something. B. Flavorings aren't there to seduce kids into smoking. They are there because adults like flavors, dammit. C. Society's viewpoint on smoking is not positive and that stigma extends to things like the ecig, so hopefully as this technology proliferates we will start to see society differentiating between vaping and smoking.

Welcome, and congrats on the switch! Yes, miracles do happen. I would surely still be smoking if it wasn't for mine, but they worked so amazingly and so completely that I don't even think about touching another cancer stick.

It is unlikely that they will be banned in the US however. The FDA tried, believe me, but ultimately the SCOTUS laid the smackdown and told the FDA that these are perfectly legal and should be regulated as reduced-harm tobacco products. So they will be regulated, but not banned. Right now they are in that kind of free-floating period where they're not illegal, not banned, but also not yet regulated, so prices are good and restrictions are minimal.

Sadly the situation here in Canada is about where the situation was in the US with the FDA was a year ago and more, where Health Canada has banned the importation and sale of nicotine-containing liquids. (But not the devices themselves, nor liquids that don't contain nicotine.) But we're slowly growing a force of vapers and vendors to fight that, and I dearly hope that we can reach the same point as the US where vendors can proliferate and grow without such ridiculous hindrances.

At any rate, it's great that you've been able to give up tobacco. Cravings can be further mitigated with either a stronger juice, a better atomizer/cartomizer, or a better E-cig, depending on what you're currently using on all counts, though if what you've got is working fine for you then there's no real reason to concern yourself much further. Vape on!

Grats!!! Sometimes headache can be...

- too much nicotine (most common) - so pay attention if it happens after long vaping sessions. If so consider buying a lower nic juice for when you want to vape a lot.

- dehydration - remember to drink fluids. Vaping can be more drying than smoking.

- getting rid of those 4000 chemicals in cigarettes - takes vitamins for a week and remember to eat well

And grats!!!

I worry that it's going to be banned, what with the catch-all "it appeals to children!" label.

  • The average age when youth first try alcohol is 11 years for boys and 13 years for girls.
  • By age 14, 41% of children have had least one drink.
  • The average age at which Americans begin drinking regularly is 15.9 years old.
  • By the 8th grade, 52% of adolescents have consumed alcohol, 41% have smoked cigarettes, and 20% have used ..........

Seems kids are attracted to a few things. They tried banning alcohol once. Didn't go so well. Hopefully they remember that.

C. Society's viewpoint on smoking is not positive and that stigma extends to things like the ecig, so hopefully as this technology proliferates we will start to see society differentiating between vaping and smoking.

I can't imagine why they would see a connection... Not the brightest marketing in history, that's for sure.

We always need more people that worry about that, and more importantly want to help do something about it.

Here are two good places to go to get up to speed on these issues...

It's been about a week since I quit, and I've been depressed/lacked energy, but not so badly that I wanted a cigarette. Also, I experienced/am experiencing headaches, sweating and was/am lightheaded/dizzy a little bit. On the other side of the coin, my skin is clearing up and I am coughing way less. I tried one after my battery went out at work on the 15th and found it unappetizing, which made me happy. I didn't finish it. So yay! I'm starting to feel better. Thanks for all the encouragement!

Hi Lavender! Welcome and congratulations! I hope you enjoy the transition and you're able to leave the analogs behind for good.

I know what you mean about being worried that they'll start trying to ban ecigs. I'm going to stock up on supplies just in case! You never know what the dang politicians are capable of doing!
