I wish we could stop calling them E-Cigs...

I think this is the main reason there is such a stigma to them. People hear "E-Cig," or "electronic cigarette" and simply make the assumption that its tobacco and its carcinogenic. People still think of it as smoking when its not. I understand that the industry more or less needed to call it that to get people like me interested at all, but now that I've switched to my PV instead of smoking, I don't consider the two to be at all alike, and the health effects are dramatically different. But all I hear in the media is "state trying to bad E-Cigarettes" and "flavored E-Cigarettes are too tempting for children." As far as anyone can tell, no one's getting cancer from vaping. It's not killing anyone. But still, my state treats my PV exactly the same as a cigarette. It's very frustrating.

The whole tax thing is a different subject and is discussed throughout the forum at length. We'll be very lucky if that doesn't happen, and remember big tobacco is pushing their money and influence in that direction. Anyway, a different topic. I do use the term e-cigs with those not accustomed to our gear because it helps them understand it easier. You could just as easily refer to it with any number of other common terms, such at battery (batts), mods, APV's (advanced personal vaporizer), or just PV, etc. The device is actually and literally a vaporizer. Get what you're saying though. Thanks for the post, vape on!

Yeah, I go back and forth on that. I do agree that the e-cig term makes people who don't know think they are just like analogs. I also know that if I call it a PV then no one knows what they heck I'm talking about. The biggest thing is what you mentioned. I also would probably not be vaping if the term e-cig had not been applied.

Bottom line, in my mind, is we all have to help educate those that don't know. I always end up using the term e-cig in explaining but only right after talking about vaping and personal vaporizer. It is all still pretty new to the huge majority of people. I have to admit, I have quickly become a bit of a PV evangalist so I have a quick education speel that I run through if people ask "What the heck is that?" :D

I have a very hard time believing that the tax man isn't going to put the hammer down at some time in the relatively near future. Vices that include alcohol, nicotine, and now pot in a couple states are taxed heavily. Vaping will be no different at some point and there is no way it can be stopped.

It won't affect me though. I'm going to fill a 200 gallon tank in my basement before it happens with flavorless juice and mix my own till I die of something other than lung cancer or copd.

I'm the same way. When I got mine, I loved it, and knew nothing about it. So I spent a week researching everything I could about what it is, how it works, what I'm putting into my lungs, what are the health benefits/effects vs smoking. And now I can't stop talking to my smoking friends about it and how much money its saving me. I may be getting a little douchey about it.

I did the same thing this weekend. My brother asked what that was in my hand. I said it's my personal vaping device. He laughed and said "What the heck is that?" Then I showed it to him and explained. At the end, he said, so it's like an e-cig and you're just smoking this instead of cigarettes? I said, yes, it's like an e-cig and NO I'm not smoking and haven't since I picked this device up.

I also had a chance to mention to a good friend yesterday that I quit smoking and was using e-cigs now. She said, I'd really like to see one of those. So I took it out of my purse and showed her and explained it to her. She is a director of a crisis pregnancy center and said that almost all her clients smoke and then asked me to explain it again and took notes so she could recommend it to her clients!
