Berylanna, all of the articles I've read seem to say they are "taking steps" and "voted to amend" but not that they have actually passed an amendment to the ordinance. Can you call the county tomorrow to see which has actually been done and let CASAA know at board@casaa.org? It may not be too late yet!

Also, I came across a great article about this that pulled no punches: http://www.breitbart.com/InstaBlog/2013/03/20/E-Cigs-Take-Another-Blow

People should comment and commend the journalist for honest and truthful reporting!

You can watch the video (11 minutes):

Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors - PBT

(Click on "SD. 3 Ordinance No. 2013-10..." in the left frame)

Be ready to be infuriated by the lack of knowledge (the whole thing revolved around their "progressive" stance against "second-hand smoke"; also, "nicotine is more damaging than ......") exhibited by the BOS and their lackeys... that's if the smug they exude doesn't piss you off first.

BTW, they voted 3-0 to adopt the ordinance. vaping is now banned everywhere smoking is banned in Contra Costa County.

This is quickly becoming the New Norm.

The way he was quoted as sort of fumbling through his reasoning, and "there is a perception"...someone is going around FAST, schmoozing these folks and making it sound like they are stupid if they don't already know they should have banned e-cigs.

I wasn't able to talk to the right person (away from her desk) about is it a law but I dug deeper into their agendas and found that they did this is scheduled for final adoption on April 9. Note how they say "without a reading" !!!

From the Mar 19 Agenda:

SD. 3 CONSIDER introducing Ordinance No. 2013-10 to prohibit the use
of electronic cigarettes at all places where smoking is prohibited and
require a tobacco retailer’s license for the sale of electronic
cigarettes and establish a new definition of “multi-unit residence”
under the County's Secondhand Smoke Protections Ordinance; waiving
reading and fixing April 9, 2013 for adoption, as recommended by the
Family and Human Services Committee. (Candace Andersen, Chair, Family
and Human Services Committee)

I spoke with Contra Costa County this morning and the ordinance is NOT final. The final vote will be on April 9th and is open to the public for testimony, so CASAA will be getting a Call to Action out for it. There are more people living in Contra Costa County than in all of Rhode Island - we have to help them!

Because Contra County already bans smoking in multi-unit residences, this new ordinance would also ban e-cigarette use. Not that it couldn't be hidden, but why should a person have to hide vaping in their OWN HOME and risk being evicted if some nasty neighbor saw them through a window or something and reported them? So, this is just not a ban in public places, it's also a ban in private homes!

It'd be great if people living in the county and are willing to go speak would email us at board@casaa.org so we can get a head start on this, too.

My mistake. The audio at end of the SD 3 segment of the vid was kind of hard to hear...

Too far to travel to CC County, but we'll have our own local battles soon enough.

Yes, it WAS too hard to hear what exactly was going on - which is why I finally had to call them just to be certain! :)
