lol just noticed the OP lives in Boston... what are you complaining about! you should of been to You Do It the whole time ;)

Not complaining - just observing. Actually, never heard of You Do It. But if it's waaaay out in the 'burbs some place then it's lost on me.

Wonder if my solar RS cigarette lighter is gonna be worth a million bucks now? :p Anyone remember those? (Do note I said solar, not solar powered.)

I hate to see a company that has been around for like 96 years file bankruptcy. Of course I must admit I would have frequented them more if they had been called, Vape Shack.

Probably could have avoid bankruptcy if they had not of spent so much money on all the circulars I have recycled over the last fifty-eleven years.

haha i have one of those mirror lighters but it wasnt from radio shack

you do need a car but it is like 15-20 minutes from boston -- just dont try to go from 3p-6p ;) its a really nice store that's there to serve the MIT crowd of kids. its like 3 RS's combined but with nothing but electronics parts and tools

between that and the local microcenter your bases are covered.

I just caught this on a mini 11 pm news blip: Radio Shack has filed for bankruptcy. They are selling 2,400 stores off to an unnamed buyer and all remaining stores are closing.

Maybe not the greatest source for mod parts, but a quick and dirty source for a lot of basic stuff when in need.

They lost their vision.
Geez I bought a tv from radio shack a couple years ago;
meanwhile if I wanted to get a connector, special battery, multimeter, I'm not so sure I'd find what I want.
Heck a year ago I ended up buying one of those toy helicopter thingies as a chrismas gift for a kid.

If they survive it would be because they went back to the business but moved more online

Yah pretty sad I have been a customer for about 30 years. They are not what they used to be, and probably because all the cool stuff is made in China now and most commerce is done online. If you think about it there are not that many tech stores any more they all have shut down or sold off. You can purchase online, the product is shipped from a warehouse, you receive it in two days and its half the price of any walk in store.

Bye. They sold a lot of junk. Wasn't "Realistic" their stereo line? Anyone still coveting one of those? LOL. They sold junk CB equipment in the '70's. They just sold a lot of junk. I am still using a digital multimeter that is about 15 years old, but that's what they should have been, a hobby shop. When they became a cell phone store with clueless sales people and lots of christmas toys, they were done.

So sad. I have a RS right up the street that I have always bought electronic supplies from them. :(

Thats their schtick, they freakin rip you off because they are close, mine is a half block away from here.

I needed some .... end connectors and heat sleeve, go into RS they are 9 bucks each for an unneeded assorted pack. I go to home depot its same pack for 99 cents.. I bought those items and  had no idea home depot carried them at that time..

I wanted a a full color led for a project it was 5 bucks for 5 bucks on line I could have over 500 leds if patient from china, 200+ from a us store.

They got us with that convenience..

I needed a micro sd card so I stopped in just to see how much they wanted 30 bucks for 16gb I go to walmart its 12 bucks for same exact card..

I have shopped there and been ripped off so many times lol I hate em.. a 20 pack of assorted resistors 9 bucks are they gold resistors I dont think so..

I do friends car/home stereo's since I was a kid and have multiple stories of RS ripoffs but they are convenient lol..

So thanks RS for years of convince and ripping us off for it cause yeah driving ten minutes away is sucketh when want now. lol

woot they dropped the price its now 3.49 woot
T-1 3/4 5mm Full Color LED - Radioshack
I must admit its the baddest full color led I had found with great data sheet. I was able to sweep it properly to find the right frequency to grow my seedlings fast. Its the bomb actually for that back then, it worked better than any other led I tried I could grow either root or stem or leaf by just adjusting current and voltage, so because of its data sheet I knew where the spectrum's were perfectly.. peeps pay huge for grow lights that have been researched like I did 8 yrs of me life finding (s*g)w
meh u may get wat ya pay for in that instance ...:D
