My 510 starter kit package arrived today. However the lady at post office would not give me my other package which was my unflavored 36mg nic juice, and 3 flavored 24mg nic juice because it hasn't technically arrived because their computer said so but my email from Canada Post said it was there grrr... But I wasn't worried because it came with 4 pre-filled (tobacco flavored?) carts and I also made some 0 nicotine juices (apple, grape, and coffee by LorAnn Oils) to test the device. I first put in the pre-filled carts and vaped away. I think I smelled a scent of tobacco? Was not sure.. I was about getting frustrated with the taste because there was none. I took the cart off and dripped 3 drops of my pre-made e juice with no nic. To keep this short, it was like this. Grape=slight scent but no taste. Apple=slighter scent but no taste. Coffee=better scent and a little better taste. I thought I just about screwed up my first diy juices and thinking what I did wrong, was it the flavor? And then my mom, who doesn't smoke by the way, decided to try it. And she said there is a really strong taste and she even named it pretty accurately too. What the hell is going on here?

It sounds like your taste buds are dead OR you are trying to use it like a ciggy. Try taking a nice, easy slow, long drag off of it WITHOUT sealing your lips completely around the mouthpiece. Exhale through your nose and see if that helps.

Update....?

exhaling through the nose helps me smell it. I tried exhaling through the nose while taking a long drag and that seems to help me define what it is that I'm vaping but still... its so mild and again it's not a "taste" it's just a scent I can smell through the nose. is that what you guys meant by taste in vaping?? or is my taste bud really shot which I heard cigs can do... how long will it take to "come back?"

Not enough information

The human tongue can only sense sweet, salty, bitter, sour and umami (MSG). A plain tobacco ejuice has little flavor. That's probably why many like sweet tobaccos so there is some taste on the tongue. The tobacco-ness should come mostly from aroma. You need to let your nose have some of the vapor. Let some waft from your mouth occasionally before you inhale. With cigarettes you don't have to do that because they bathe you in smoke.

I like sweet tobaccos and very aromatic tobaccos.

Prefilled carts are usually Chinese PG juice in a plain tobacco flavor - not going to have much aroma either

Your premixed juice - what is the PG/VG and what company is it from? Some companies have more subtle flavors. And if it is a VG juice, VG dulls both TH and flavor

ok, seems your diy juices are off did u do 100%vg? are you getting throat hit, how is the vapor production? and also carts can also take some time to settle, leave your pv up right after puting a new cart on and let is settle a few min then give it a go

i did 80% pg and 20% vg for the "base." and 80% base then 20% flavor. then the the end product I just added 3 drops of 40proof Absolut Vodka. Vapor production was nothing like what I've seen on youtube... but it was decent. Taste... was plain. Throat hit was very small.. This is my first vaping experience so I have nothing to compare to. But I don't think I can quit smoking with this device if this is the best it could do which I doubt it because you guys rave about it so much.

SourGreen,
I too have been very disappointed with my trials of juices, but I believe my expectations were way too high. Also, being a heavy smoker for 50 years I suspect my sense of taste and smell are damaged. Hopefully, some of that will improve with time. After 10 days smoke-free, I'm just starting to smell some nasty stuff around the house, LOL.

I went whole-hog and ordered a bunch of juices from the top rated suppliers - BWB, Johnson Creek, Vaporite, etc.. Almost none of them had anything like the aroma of a real cigarette. Finally, I accepted that if this vapor smelled just like a cigarette, it would have to be smoke, not vapor. Most of the "best" tobacco juices I've sampled have a sweet and typically caramel aroma, and only a few have a slight tobacco aroma. Ironically, some of the less fancy off-the-shelf juices have the aroma of something burning and are quite satisfying for me, such as Liberty-Flight's Home Counties and a generic "Wenston" juice.

Hopefully, someday my taste and smell will slowly return and I'll get to enjoy this stock of fancy juice I've bought.

yeah i might have given this too high of an expectation. i thought somehow it would be just like what smoke feels like. its not really. quite different actually. but i think i can grow to like it.

i like 50% vg 50% pg as high a nic as i can get, for me the harsher the better for me, atm i really dig vapor bombs straw waffle w/cream, cafe mocha, fuzzy navel and pina colada, from juicy vapors i dig, reduced pg mix 24 mg nic, mint choc chip, ectoplasma, and tiramisu

i live in canada. a lot of u guys are really lucky to have variety of juice vendors to choose. i ordered mine from evapers.com (i think it's the only canadian juice vendor that delivers juice with nicotine) and it should arrive tomorrow. i'll see how that goes. hmmm strawberry waffle w/ cream sounds sooooo goood

Two good points.

you will hopefully find that vaping provides acceptable nicotine replacement. it will never equal a cig for most people. it's much easier than patches, much easier than quitting... but it's not a cig.
don't expect a perfect replacement. there's still gonna be some willpower involved in the whole thing.

First time 'round, with my 510, the closest I came to success was with RY4. Kind of a tobacco/caramel macchiato in a vape.
I still really dig on the RY4 versions.

I'm not a big fan of the straight tobacco vapes. I was a tobacco connoisseur when I smoked (RYO/MYO cigs- one of the reasons I RYO/MYO'd), and no vape, or commercial cig blend, can compare with small batch periques, latakias, izmirs, samsuns, british flue-cured virginias, etc, etc.
Just pale comparisons of the real things- so for me i find it's best to find the best tasting vapes, not trying to find the closest tasting fake.
YMMV...

In my experience so far vodka reduces both flavor and vapor and I don't notice any additional TH from it. I'd replace the vodka with either VG for more vapor or flavor for uhhh flavor lol. Also menthol will fix your lack of taste, if you don't taste the menthol then your taste buds are dead.

And if you're looking for the cig taste, then I found Pure Cig from Freedom Smokesusa smells just like an ashtray to me.

DeusX,
Thanks for your input and encouragement. I think I'm finally accepting there really is no "taste" and best to just find some juices with enjoyable aroma and "lung hit". I direct inhale to get the kick, but get the aromas by exhaling back into my nose just like a cigarette. It seems to help to alternate between a pure so-called straight tobacco vape and a sweeter aroma like the RY4 or Freedomsmoke's MaxBoro.
