So I got thinkin'

What if you are absolutely committed to never inhaling burnt tobacco. Forever.

But you like and you want to vape. In a quasi post apocalyptic scenario, let's say, could you rig an ecig that worked without battery power?

Let's say you can make juice (and have gallons of nic fluid and PG or VG) plus you can rig a pretty mean Rebuildable atomizer. To which, you have spools of Nichrome/Kanthal.

So in between battling hordes of zombies, what could you come up with that would allow you a vape?

I got thinking of those little dynamo flashlights, then something that wouldn't burn tobacco but somehow.....well, crud.

Anybody ever thought about this?

Personally if the Zombies rise--AND THEY WILL!!!--I would start hoarding analogs, i mean what's your life-span going to be? Kinda pointless to not smoke. Otherwise go solar--pass-through USB to a solar-USB kit, or start rubbing nic-juice on your gums. :D

"Can you put some ejuice on some tin foil and light the bottom ... then suck the vapor through a straw?" lol

Solar panel as mentioned above is the obvious answer.

Seriously, that might actually work :D

You might just be able to incorporate a hybrid of both the mesh/cigar pipe idea with a glass-blown goose neck (lonnnng goose neck) with the eliquid nicotine in the bottom of a reservoir which, when heated with a Bic, would vaporize, thus creating our venerable vape!

HA!

Solar panel, yes, but its not mobile.

Oh and as to hoarding analogs?

I've tried a cigarette a while back, "just to see" and, man, I just don't like 'em anymore! And I wasn't just kidding myself either. I can honestly say even after 30+ years of 2.5 packs a day. Once in a while I catch a waft in the air and scent memory kicks in, and I am like "oh wow". Kind of like seeing an old girlfriend. But then you actually get close enough to have the odor permeate your space and the " yuk" factor happens (kind of like seeing an old girlfriend and remembering why you called it quits)

Besides, those zombies aint gonna win! They can't!! The Walking Dead series continues!!!!

Gawd! That show R A W K S !!!!!!!!!

I think a goose neck glass design with an eLiquid reservoir just might actually work, though

Yet, just now my muse flashed another idea!

oh wow.....

Going to make you wait until I put it down on paper....

........

Not mobile? How small do you want it? For example, this one fits in your pocket & even has a built-in 650MAh Li-Poly battery for backup):

Buy now, Universal Solar Power Charger w/ 10 Different Connectors and Mini USB Adapter - Green/Blackw/ Free Shipping.

My Xtar WP2 Charger has the normal wall-power plug, but also has a USB port for powering it...a natural fit for a solar USB charger.

That's just one example...there are hundreds of different types of small solar chargers on the market now...and most are pretty cheap. You don't need much power to recharge Li-Ion batteries...

Yeah, I have seen those, and that is on the right track. I was really on the fence about battery chargers and almost pulled the trigger on the WPII, for exactly that reason. I opted for the Nitecore I4, though. I figured versatility trumped all else. Still might get one though.

Workin' on a design of a PV ala "Vaping Apocalypto".....MUUUUHUHAAHAAA

Like your sig quote :D

My favorite Heinlein Quote has always been:

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

It occurs to me that that is what is in the evolving spirit of this thread.

I think you guys are going way too high tech for this application. Check this out. Scroll down to post #2444 and follow along for a few posts. It takes a few minutes to get this puppy going, but it's small, portable, requires no batteries, no wick and no resistance wire. Zombie apocalypse killer if ever I saw one :2cool:

Not to hijack the thread but Heilein's Starship Troopers was my inspiration for joining the Marines. I own a copy of just about everything that man published...

I'm thinking a pipe, with the bowl lined with mesh and stuffed with silica would hold a fair amount of juice. Just heat with a lighter or any other flame source. Might take a bit of practice to get the right hit you are after but really, it isn't the wire in the coil that is important for juice vaporization... it's the heat that it produces!

Although I too have thought about the extreme post-apocalypse possibility of just rubbing a bit juice behind the ears or below the jaw and letting it work it's way in through the skin, like an impromptu nicotine patch.

Well, I think that might be "it", but let's keep it going :)

I can only say that it is no surprise that the poster is from Deutschland. From V2s, H&K firearms, Porsches, Mercedes', they seem to have quite a regional ability for amazing, effective and precision inventions.

Oh, and kudos for Heinlein is absolutely acceptable in this thread. And not to sound too Teutonophilic, but "Heinlein" is a name of German Austrian origin. And Glocks aren't too shabby either (if you swap out the barrels with an aftermarket version)

Anyway, I digress. Sort of.

Another option to consider are power banks made from 18650s in series, which are refreshed with small but efficient solar panels/ dynamos.

Widely available now are premanufactured battery supplies which will (with 4 Panasonic 18650 3400 mAh Li-Ions) produce 13.6 amps of power. It has been reported that this can charge an Ipad...twice!.

Ahh, the possibilities.

What about some kind of large hampster wheel powered by zombies? Stick a small animal in a cage in front of it, attach some type of power converter, battery, regulator, and presto!
I know its not portable but once you find a semi permanent fortification you're going to want power for more than just e cigs!

Somebody's been watchin' Walking Dead. Like when Michaun hacked off the arms and crushed the jaw to make those zombies walking luggage carriers :D

Good thought. Bet those thing stink, though :D

Wow.

They could solve the energy crisis on that show implementing that which of you speak on a grand scale!

Let's see if the writers rip off my idea for next season!!

Actually this is the most common scenario amongst those of us that have vaped for a while, cigarettes become absolutely DISGUSTING to us. I absolutely despise cigs now, and I would rather quit cold turkey than go back to smoking if that was my only option because smoking disgusts me and it would make me sick trying to smoke more than 2-3.
