This may seem stupid, but I inadvertently purchased cr123 non rechargeable batteries. They are Li-ion, and they are protected. Can I use these the same way I use the rechargeable batteries, with the exception of recharging them of course. I guess my main concern would be are they safe?

Recharging them can cause them to explode - there's been at least one case of that that ended up with a hospital visit. If I were you I'd just use it for a flashlight or other device until it dies and keep it out of the ecig rotation.

Well, the reason we don't recommend them is the risk that one day you'll put one in a charger by mistake, and when that happens, they can explode the first time you fire up the atty - and they do go with a lovely big bang right in your face.

If I were you I'd forget about any 'protected' sticker on them and treat them as a potential small stick of dynamite - because that's exactly what they are.
:)

No doubt they'll be thrown away fairly soon and that's good. Get AW IMR Li-Mn rechargeable cells, sure they cost more, but you are going to charge these things and put them right in front of your face, so think about it...
