Non Smoker wants vape set up for my non smoking home

Hi Guys and Gals.

I need some advice as what to buy to keep in my home for visitors. I have been reading up for a few months now and have a reasonable good grasp of the stuff available...dripper types, reservoir types, disposable cartridge types etc.


I've never been a smoker ..apart form the odd puff as a student

I do not like smoking in my apartment, but do have a few smoking friends who I make go stand outside when they need a ....

I have a selection of starter kits, that have received mixed reactions..since cartridge styles with fixed non-refillable reservoirs, or fixed wattage/ temperature.
I have one each of the Vype e-pen and Vype e-stick and a EGO CE4 pen style starter kit.

Have been reading up on the various 'mods' boxes over the past few weeks.
I have been using g18650 and various LiPo and LifePO4 lithium chemistry batteries for 5 years now..building electric bike packs from Lipo pouch cells, up to 30 Ah and 140 volt...so fully aware of the dangers of lipo cells and over discharge/charge conditions..so am happy with anytime that uses 1860 bare or protected cells.

Was thinking to get a box style mod, with variable wattage..maybe up to 100watt, had thought of a 200 watt until ..but that is a bit overkill, and maybe 3 or 4 clearomisers and a few different liquids, from zero up to 24 to cater for my varied friends,
Something that has variable wattage/ temperature, air flow...but disposable coil units..I do not want the hassle of winding coils

The whole idea being I can 'cater ' for anyone from an occasional ultra low smoker to my mate, who is a 40 a day full strength sort of girl.


I have seen many reviews but not being a user ..have no idea. I'll be ordering online, and live in Jersey. My local shop, run by an old school mate is always so busy , I can never get a chance to have a good Q&A session with him.

So to sum up..suggestions for a box mod that:
Low to high wattage
takes reservoir type atomisers
Takes coils that I can buy off the shelf
Temperature/ wattage control
Air flow control.

I really want fully adjustable so the various friends that come around can have play

Welcome, wish I had friends like you. I havent personally used them but I hear the subox is a good option with a nautilus or atlantis tank,both use premade coils for less hassle. Good luck, I am sure you will get better and more responses shortly.

Don't do it is my advice. You may as well just buy some cig-a-likes at the corner store than waste your time and money trying to guess what would work for various friends.

I already do have the fixed basic styles of Vype style e-pens and get various comments from too strong. not like smokgin pure air..so rather like we have a drinks cabinet int he house with a selection of booze, I want to create something similar in the vape department.
Not worried about the cost really..well up to a point ..if it costs me £300-400 , so 500 -600 USD..then fine , no problem, as long as the stink of tobacco smoke is not I'm my house.

Regardless of what you provide, you're going to get the same comments. Your friends are "smokers", not "vapers". While similar, vaping is Not the same as smoking. Your friends will probably cough like crazy, cringe from the tastes, choke on vapor, or, if you're lucky, walk out the door with your vapes. Also, you'll have to provide a range of replacements, like drip tips, coils, wick, batteries, and of course, liquids. Add in the factor that you also are not a vaper (nor a smoker) and have no idea what you need to do for upkeep or even initial prep of a device, I don't see much use in you spending your own money for this.

All nice and what not if you still do it, if you have the money And Time, but really easier on everyone if you just say "No smoking here folks!".

But, if you're gonna, you're gonna, so here is what I would suggest:
iStick TC60W devics and Melo 2 tanks, with Samsung INR18650-25R 2500mAh High Drain Li-ion 18650 Batteries. You can get three types of coils for the Melo 2 tanks ( two of them are temperature controlled) and they are easy to use and fill. Many places sell the TC60W and Melo 2 together and you can get several and stay under budget, while offering a wide range of uses with the devices.
I have no suggestions on liquids as I am a DIYer and only like a limited range of flavors. I suppose you could ask your local B&M for suggestions for the smokers taste though.

I don't recommend it. Vaping is too individualized and good, versatile gear takes time to set up to preference. That said, if you want to try, buy a Reuleaux RX200 mod and an Aspire Nautilus tank (or more than one so you can set them up with various coils) for Mouth-to-Lung; and a Kanger Subtank (again, or more than one) for Direct Lung.

The issue I see is getting a flavor the "friends" will want to try. Some people are open to vape, others not. Part of this issue will be getting the correct nicotine level. Once I hit the proper level in vape I had a flavor I enjoyed I didn't want a cig after that.

That being said I agree with @suprtrkr above. The Wismec Reuleaux RX 200 (200 watts but I don't vape over 30 most of the time) is about $50 USD. I would recommend 2 sets of 3, 18650 batteries like the Samsung 25 R (2500 mah) or LG HG2's (3000 mah) that you can get at www.LiionWholesale.com (in Penn so shipping should be fast to you) . While there you might as well pick up a 4 bay Nitecore battery charger for under $20. The batteries must be used as a set and charged as a set for safety. Do NOT mix and match.

I would also suggest getting a mod with internal batteries. (iStick, Innokin, Joytech Evic, etc..) Most of these are charged via usb cord. It helps to have a back up, and while the Reuleaux is ergo and more comfortable than a regular box mod, a smaller mod might be better suited for grab and go or a pocket. The first rule to success in vape is backups, and you stand a decent chance of getting someone to switch if you get the nicotine level correct (kills the urge), and a flavor to enjoy. It's not something that can be pushed on you, they have to have the desire or curiosity first.

The Nautilus (I preferred the Nautilus mini) is about as close to a mouth to lung style of vape resembling a cig as possible. It gives a quality vape and is easy to use, practically plug and play. I would get at least 2.

The other tank, the Kanger Subtank Mini is a great option. I swapped out the wide bore drip tip for a more narrow standard 510 drip tip ($2) and mouth to lung vape with my Subtanks. As said, it's also conducive to lung hitters. Premade coils are available for both the Aspire Nautilus and Kanger Subtank Mini.

I wouldn't be concerned with temp control. Most all the mods made today are putting this function on it. You can always run the mods in straight power (wattage/voltage) mode with regular kanthal coils.

All of the people that do pop in and have tried the vype pens and ego that I have got here..all vaguely satisfied..not 100% ..as I said in the first post...but enough that they don't feel the need to nip out int eh rain and cold to have a real one..Yes they are not Vapers..but the nicotine hit they get is enough to keep the cravings at bay..and keep their hands occupied...

A mod and tanks with enough settings and 'tinker ability' will keep them occupied. and allow them to adjust settings to suit. Most of my crowd are techies..engineers..IT, tinkerers etc so none of them will be phased by lots of controls..the more the better!

I'll keep you all posted as to what I do and the outcomes.

Samsung INR18650-25R 2500mAh High Drain Li-ion 18650 Batteries.

thankfully I have a stack of 18650's..like 100 or more that over the last year I have 'graded' with a Hobby Charger (iCharger 3010b) Some bought new for the new flashlight Noctigon Meteor M43 Flashlight - 12x LED - 4x18650 and others salvaged from laptop packs.
I discharge test them for max drain and capacity. Good ones are capacity and IR matched for e-bike pack building..the best I keep back for flashlight duty. Not uncommon to find cells far better than OEM spec so they maybe labelled as 2000Ah, but i have sen good examples give 2750, even after use in a laptop !

Oh yes, I am fully aware of lithium battery issues...the metal can 18650 LiFEPO4's are not too bad compared to the pouch cells , especially when you have $2000 USD worth of them about 6inches from you delicate bits, while sitting astride a home made 16kw e-bike doing 55 mph!

If you have given them a few high current discharge cycles first, and you know the have given a good output without IR and temps going sky high, then they are good to go.
Here is a really crappy video of a 5Ah Lipo cell taking 8 volts and 25 amps charge current.
So yes, they can be dangerous..but..not as bad as people make out ..as long as you test them first and if you have a BMS..it is of good quality...unlike those fitted to many hover boards!

If they show some interest in vaping, educate or help them with a setup.

A lot of this depends on how many people and how often. A couple of isticks 30s with a couple of tanks and 5-6 flavors works for a monthly night of cards...10 mods and 20 flavors for a weekly dinner party and dance. Or maybe just a few disposable cigar vapes for an occasional visitor.

If you aren't trying to gently push them towards becoming vapers, the Big Tobacco devices are intended for smokers who need something to use when they can't smoke, without temptation to quit.

Among small, cheap pen-type devices, I enjoy the original EVODs, but only with a battery unit that allows limiting the power so the coils don't burn. These are bottom coil for cooler vapor and better juice flow than top coils such as the eGo (not to be confused with the Ego One) and probably the Vype. However, for a little more, the Endura T18 has been getting raves as being the closest to smoking, and its top coils don't require the (cotton!) wicking to pass through constrictive little holes.

If you really want to give them a big push, provide a variety of devices suggested, but realize smokers reactions to the more powerful devices will vary, and improper use can cause burnt coils. Take it up to Temperature Control to help avoid this (although they still have settings that can be messed up).

An actual store near me. I made a bit of a mistake when I first signed up to this forum and only realised after the first few replies...I originally Googled "UK e-cigarette forums"..hit the first result..this forum without taking note that it was dot.com or looking carefully at members locations. I said I was in Jersey..thinking I was posting on a UK site..and people would know where and what Jersey is...
We are a small island, 12 x 6 miles , population 80,000 or so..and as I may have said, only have one store.that is always so busy..having any time to talk and discuss stuff is near impossible. I have tried 3-4 times and it the staff (all one or two of them) never really have time just to chat about stuff as there is always a que of people coming in and out..this is why I signed up here and posted online.


I'd still be happy using any 18650's i have tested myself. We are talking of what...5 second bursts from these cells..10 seconds maybe for a long draw? So any cells that I have run in my home brew LED XML2 LED flashlight, that can constantly supply 15-20 amps..till they drop off the 'knee' of the dishcharge curve..I'd have no problem using them a vape device where you are only drawing burst currents.

I am not sure how the devices work exactly, regarding power supply,but I am sure I have read mention of Buck Convertors being used to drop voltage to a stable output, But if you were running at say 60 watts from a single cell, starting at 4.2 volts and dropping down to a safe figure of 3 volts, that would be current draw from the cell in the range of 14 to 20 amps. I'd be happy to run any of my tested cells at those currents for a few second burst, even taking conversion losses in the circuitry in to account.

I do appreciate the safety advice though, there have been many lipo fires ...just the same as in the car world there have been many Lead Acid / hydrogen gas venting fires/ explosions/ petrol fires...know your enemy and treat according
