noob and his homemade rba

Hi there I'm a complete newbie to vaping but am seriously interested in it all, before even buying any king of e-cig/vape i decided to build my own as they're very simple to be fair and i like to make things any way, only makes it more personal. it is powered by a 3.7v 18650 with an old torch body and switch and has been made using an RCA jack.

I recently ordered some PG 99.9% pure food grade and also bought some Glycerin (Glycerol) which unless im mistaken is the same as VG? i have been using .20 mm / 32 Awg Kanthal with about 4 wraps and so far have only tried silica wick and 100% pure cotton balls (boiled twice) however when using either PG or VG alone or mixed together in any ratio it always has pretty unbearable TH it doesn't hurt but it makes you splutter and cough, there is no hot spots on my coil so i don't understand why its so bad?

compared to videos I've seen it barely produces the same amount of vape either, also the top cap/mouth piece has a 1 mm breather hole which is position able yet doesn't change the TH, I bought some cheap juicy jay drops which are usually used on tobacco/cigars or at least as they advertise it for that and the flavor is great.

any advice is really appreciated!

Haha most people confused enough with the store bought stuff and you start out with nothing regular but some kanthal.

Can be one of many things but best guess, your home made wick is not wicking enough liquid or your coil is getting way too hot and frying your liquid.
I would spend a few bucks on getting some proper silica and some store made liquid. For a fiver you should be settled.
That way you should be able to rule out most possible issues with your diy setup. (bad liquid, bad wick, etc)

thanks for the advice i also thought that buying some 400 mesh would be my best bet, however both the silica and cotton im using wick extremely well the cotton only gets the slightest brown tinge to it, and it seems like there is a fair amount of vapour coming off it but once inhaled nothing comes back out ! could the wick be flooding the coil and stopping it from becomingh hot enough MAYBE?

1mm airhole should be too small. Drill it out a little.

Edit: on second thought, considering you havent used a electronic cigarette before, and from the symptom "theres vapor but inhaled vapor doesnt come out", the bigger possibilty is that you are sucking on it too hard like a cigarette. Take slow, light drags. If you inhale too fast the vapor is diluted and becomes very thin, so nothing comes back out.

i thought that slow long draws were better unlike a quick hard pull on a cigarette and you were right it was the air hole, i opened it up to 1.3mm and it is spot on!! thank you!
