As I try to decipher the multitude of information on this forum in identifying what mod I want to purchase for myself, I have found it difficult to find anything that anyone is manufacturing that is really appealing to me. That said, I have decided to build something myself. A local business here is allowing me to use their Flojet CNC cutter, so long as I am willing to provide my own CAD program for them to use. (they're not interested in programming a design for me)

I am going to build a medium box, cut it out of a solid block of billet aluminum and make it look really pretty. I can build something that looks like nothing I have seen in the marketplace yet. And with any luck, hopefully go into production.

As a noob, I have a lot to learn very quickly, and hope the forum can help me out with some answers.

I have noticed that in the DIY battery boxes I have seen here on the forum, that they all appear to have (at minimum) a resistor somewhere in the wiring, and many have a circuit board with some components on it.

Does a simple box with a switch require any of these components? I know a VV box is more complex, but can a simple box be made without anything other than a switch between the battery and the atty connector? Eventually, I'll build a device that is more complex circuit-wise, but in the beginning I would want to keep it simple. Thanks.

I've built a few boxmods. I purchase the kits from madvapes. The kits come with a box, switch, connector, resistor, and LED. Here's the link 510 Box Mod Kit. I don't bother putting the resistor and LED since I don't really want a light on my rig anyway, that's what the resistor is used for. I just wire the switch in the + wire. Makes for a simple boxmod. I've been using the last 2 for around 9 months without any problems. So no, you don't need a resistor or any other electronic components if you don't want to put them in there.

Hi and welcome to ECF. After you have 5 posts you can take a look and post here.. You will see lot of mods and ideas that people share. You'll find lots of answers to your questions there. As far as the mod you want to build, you will need a resistor, some wires, connectors, battery contacts and a switcher.
Good luck with your mod and please share with us.

I think (not sure, but think) if you have an LED you have to have a resistor

Also, if you ever start producing/selling I think you will need to convert to a supplier or non-registered supplier account here and follow supplier rules

And there is a whole Modding section of ECF. Once you have 5 posts or replies (non-spammed) total then an hour wait, you can post there or elsewhere on ECF

You don't need a resister for a simple, small battery 3.7 volt box. If you want to build the better battery 5 volt box mod you will need a resister but it really is just as simple to put together as the small battery 3.7 volt model. I've built the 5 volt box mod with the parts purchased from MadVapes.com (about $9) and it's just a couple more soldering points. They have the diagrams to show you how on the DIY forum part of their site.
