Noob here and a bit confused

Hi all,

been smoking for the last 20 years, not a massive smoker 10-15 a day but have decided now it's time to try and knock it on the head. I know a few people who have had success with the main stream electronic cigarettes like elites etc etc.

I have done a bit of research and was all for ordering the Green Smoke kit tonight, however after a little last minute research have decided to put that on hold after stumbling upon this forum until I have asked a few questions.

1. Good idea to go for something like the above or find a vape shop?
2. If the consensus is yes to the vape shop, can anyone recommend one in the Stourbridge/Dudley area?

If you know people who've quit with these brands, I want to meet them. They are appalling and a rip off. You mean like 20-a-day and suddenly gone to zero?

I can recommend vape shops in your area.

Look at the Halo web site and get a Triton starter kit you will be glad you did. I smoked 2 packs a day for far too many years and stopped 10 months ago. The Triton is the way to go.

I smoked 10-15 a day (admittedly roll ups) and wasted hundreds of pounds on certain "brands".

If you want a cig-a-like e-cig, be careful. People are spending £3.99 per refill when you can buy better for just £1.

That's £1,500 a year compared to £370. It's a racket.

i use my local shop the bonus of this i can try flavors before i buy and always get good advice i know they seem more expensive but when you add postage they work out the same and you are supporting local business and there is always the time when you need somthing quick and can just pop in i ordered a iclear 30s online it came and was a crap clone the guy at my local shop ordered one for me and he had it delivered over nite at no extra cost plus i buy lots of things from him he always knocks a few quid of or chucks something in on the house

I would agree with upton but I have an even better recommendation. Assuming you can find a vape store in your area I would highly recommend getting a "vision spinner" (that is the battery and it is variable voltage) which should only be about $30 and get some cheap kanger tanks or iclears.

You will be paying much more at a vaoe shop compared to ordering online but at least you get to really see what you are buying and possibly get some help from the people working in the store.

I started with cigalikes but if I had to do it all over again I'd walk into a reputable B&M and get and Ego starter kit...it will be a bit more expensive than buying online but they can walk you thru how everything works. And you can test flavors before you buy. Good luck!

Tim? What sort of cigarettes do you smoke (brand, or nicotine content?)

Are you looking to quit straight off? Are you hoping to vape then cut down over the months?

1 "refill" is less than half a pack of full strength cigarettes (B&H or Marlboro etc.) regardless of what they say. It's been proven time and time again.

Hello Ontombose! Welcome to ECF. Congrats on your decision to quit. A local shop can be very beneficial in the beginning. I would recommend going to a shop, explain what you want to do, and ask them for suggestions.

For me it was as simple as stay away from the gas station ecigs. I tried disposables and even the Blu starter kit and went right back to smoking in a few days. I'm currently on an eGo-T with a kanger T2 and it's exactly what I was looking for vapor production wise. I would definitely suggest using a full fledged vapor shop, they'll help you figure out exactly the set up you'll need to start with. Also, don't be scared to buy and try around, it's kind of a hit and miss till you find the right set up for you.

There is Midlands Vaping in Dudley, but I'm not sure they do kits or entry level equipment.

Well, if I can be so pushy, unless you want to half your nicotine intake (or worse) and suffer (the same way I did) then these mini e-cigs are not going to do it for you.

I am really going to need to get on now. I'll pop back one more time tonight.

....if you are really stuck or concerned about my comments, please google AAEC-UK, there are LOADS of Birmingham Vapers on there.

There is a growing team of us on AAEC and UKV. We all tried on plastic sticks and all failed.

if it helps, I might be able to mobilise a few for a "vape meet" at the Wellington pub on Bennetts Hill in B'ham. You could try all sorts there.

I appreciate all you honest feedback, after all you have saved me £65 on the green smoke kit.

I have dropped the Dudley store to see if they have anything for the beginner, so will see what they come up with. If not will look a bit afield like you have suggested.

Once I know what I am looking at with all the bits and bobs I will be ok, just a bit daunting at first like anything I guess.

Midlands Vaping will do a basic eGo battery or a Vision Spinner. They also sell clearomisers.

That's all you need, plus a charger £3.99-£4.99 and some e-liquid.

Ask about "Mini Protank" or "V3", although V3 is old tech and £4.99 is top dollar really.

Protank replacement heads are readily available for £1.20 each, so if you get a Protank, don't go buying 10 atomiser heads.
