Hi, I've been vaping for about three weeks and lurking for about two weeks. I was a pack a day smoker and haven't had a single ciggie since receiving my Blu kit on Nov 18 or so.

The Blu starter kit quickly proved itself to be inadequate. The cartos were ok but the battery life on the batteries was very frustrating (Wish I found this forum before coughing up a hundred bucks on something I won't use again). I also bought a Johnson Creek juice sampler pack, 10 3ml bottles of various flavors (on sale, thankfully).

So after some research here, I bought a Smok Tech Ego 900 mah passthrough, some ST mega dual coil cartos. After stalking the mailman for a couple days, my stuff came and now I have some questions. Here goes:

1) I managed to fill the cartos with the JC juice. I'm getting like no flavor out these juices, except for the peach, which I really like and the chocolate mint, which tastes like something brown but not chocolate or mint, hehe. The other juices have very muted, almost undetectable flavor. The carto looks filled and gives good vapor but just dont taste like anything. Could I be doing something wrong or does the juice itself not measure up?

2) I'm looking for vapor and flavor and little throat hit. From reading various posts here, I'm thinking I need a VG-based juice. Is this a correct conclusion? Any juice suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This seems like a real friendly, helpful community and look forward to enjoying my time here.

Welcome to ECF! I'm no expert, but here's what I think:
1) It sounds like it's the juice if you're getting good vapor but little to no flavor. The large dual coils do mute flavors a bit, but they should still be there. Steeping, or letting juice sit for a week or two, can change the flavor as well. The other possibility is that your taste buds are adjusting from smoking to vaping, which can cause weird or no taste.
2) I don't think a VG based juice is needed to get the combination of flavor and vapor with little throat hit. VG tends to mute flavors so you've got a tradeoff. I use 80/20 pg/vg juice and don't like much throat hit myself; 50/50 produces lots of vapor albeit with somewhat less flavor. It'll depend on the vendor and to some degree on the nicotine level - more nic tends to have a more peppery throat hit. I'd recommend getting a sampler from some other vendors. Halo is my personal favorite, and there are many good suppliers here that offer sample packs or pick-your-own samplers.

It looks like you've gotten your hardware in order, now the juice hunt starts! For many of us it never ends - there's always a new flavor to try! Good luck and keep vapin'!

Book marking this thread.

I should have a full set of samples from them tomorrow.

Now, I will say people experience flavor voids at some point. I blew it off when I read it, but the very well steeped KVB Bogart, that I started with, has zero flavor to me right now. Same with a few others. I'm putting them aside for now.

I'm assuming it will pass once my taste buds figure out what's going on.

Best

1)Steeping may be an issue, the juices may need more time to come to their full flavor.

Your tastebuds may also be "revitalizing" right now. Its common when first starting to vape to not be able to taste. Drinking more water will help. Mostly, they just need time to heal from smoking and get use to you vaping. Your taste WILL come back.

Did you test your flavors on an atomizer before putting them into cartomizers? This is always a good measure in the cases when a juice might taste like poo and its not something you want to commit to.

JC juice may just not be for you or as mentioned may just need time. Don't be afraid to shop around and try other sample flavors of other vendors. I haven't had tried too many myself, luckily or perhaps because I'm easily pleased I found my go to vendors rather quickly.

I hear vikingvapor.com has very low prices to try juice as does vaporgod.com the latter being one of my go-to vendors.

2) Higher VG may be helpful here, however you may not like the way high VG makes you feel. It is also VERY harsh on cartomizers. My suggestion is to try different VG/PG ratios in samples you get to see what works for you. Most will recommend going no higher then 30%VG in cartomizers, less VG the better. I've found fruity juices like vaporgod's strawberry for example to have a gentle throat hit. I haven't tried enough vendors to be sure but it seems like fruit flavors typically don't have a *kapow* kick ya in the throat hit. Lower nicotine levels can also help curb the TH. To lower the TH even more don't use LR/low resistance atomizers/cartomizers. It will be easier on your batteries anyways. I feel like and maybe it's just me but atomizers always have a bit of extra throat hit going on.

Welcome to ECF! Stay positive and you'll do great.

Welcome to ECF.

1) Steep your juices. Also, please remember that your taste buds are starting their recovery. You are going to go through some phases with being able to taste stuff correctly. JC and many other vendors make their stuff fresh so steeping is a must. Drink tons of water when you vape. This will also speed up the healing you're going through.

2) VG has a tendency to mute flavor. I suggest going with a blend of 80vg/20pg or lower on the VG side. The little bit of PG will help to enhance the flavoring.

Some have trouble getting flavor from DC's. Overfilled or underfilled cartos can also lack in flavor. And underfilled or juice too sluggish can cause singed stuffing for a bitter taste (which first erases sweetness).

VG is thick and doesn't move quickly in cartos

Dunno - most people use the opposite of what you are using - they use high PG juices and 2 ohm Boge cartos or other LR cartos (single coil). PG is thin, lets through the most flavor, the most nicotine TH, the most nicotine irritation. VG is thick, dulls everything PG lets through, makes thicker vapor. I use 80PG/20VG in cartos.

Well, just got a shipment of a few juices from Mad Vapes: PG/VG blend of 18mg, Top Vapor flavors Minthol, Key Lime Freeze, Tobacco, Cherry Tobacco and Lemon-Lime Soda. Filled up a Boge standard resistance cartomizer (came in the same shipment) with Minthol, as I wanted to compare to the Johnson Creek Menthol I already had.

Oh my...

There is no comparision! The flavor and vapor of the Minthol blew me away! The Johnson Creek stuff is just like breathing air compared to this stuff. I have no idea if the Top Vapor stuff is good compared to other juices, but it is exactly what I'm looking for, vapor and flavor. I'm so happy!

The JC menthol stuff went right into the trash can and , as I'm guessing, the rest will follow.

I'll update the thread as I test the other flavors.

Heh, now I gotta go hunting for more juice. :)

As promised...

I've been dripping these tonight ( 6v with an ikenvape 4.5 Ohm atty) Currently on the Red Oak sampler. No muted flavor on my end, they are actually quite nice, actually a few that could be a daily vape. I'll need to invest in a magnifying glass to read the bottles, so I know what to order (Which I'll do)..

I don't think your problem is with the juices..

I am in that no taste spot myself. I keep alternating between flavors and sipping water between vapes, that helps some. +1 on the steeping, that has helped a few of the juices that I did not like at first to get a better taste. Any juice I do not like after steeping will go up in the PIF thread. Tates are so different I know someone will want them.

I had the same experience, but you have come to the right place for advice. These posters will help you.
