Yes, let it sit for a while if you're not getting the kind of flavor you expected. It could take a week, it could take a month, it depends. There are a lot of resources here on the subject.
You got it about right...setting it aside for about a week and a half or 2 weeks...it gives most juices more time to incorporate the chemicals they are made of better...good to shake them up a bit from time to time during this process...Hope that helped..Welcome!!!
You can speed up the steeping/aging process a little by removing the cap and drip stopper for 24 hours. You'd have to experiment a little to see if you need to repeat this process in a week. Air is actually your friend in the aging process.
