Hi everyone! I've been researching getting a PV for a couple weeks, but I've had trouble determining how long juice/cartos last.

For cartos, most of the vendors claim that a carto lasts about a pack; however, I've read that this isn't really the case. so my first question: How long do cartos typically last? (take a KR8 for example)

For juice, how does mL of juice correspond to cigarettes/packs/cartos? If I were a 1 pack/day smoker, how long would 10ML last?

Oh, and any recommendations for a starter model? I understand that 510/manual is a popular choice. Any others?

Thanks in advance!

i havent used many cartos so i cant give you even an educated guess on how long one would last you, but 10ml of juice is probably safe to say that it would last you 7-10 days. you are right the 501 is a very popular model on here but some others for you to look at would be the DSE 901, the kr808 like you mentioned along with the fat bat type like ego,Riva, or a ecar type like the leo, 801 ect...theres alot to choose from and just as many mods, i reccomend writing down what you want from one and go from there, the look size, how long you want 1 bat to last ect. good luck!-)

1. no - a carto does not last the length of a pack of cigarettes unless it is some kind of super-carto and you burn it dry (and thus ruin it for refilling). Any place that tells you a carto lasts as long as a pack of cigarettes is not a good site unless it is the new 5ml super-carto I've heard tell of. If they don't sell blank cartos then it's a sure sign to walk away. And they might also use hard or glued on caps on their cartos to make them harder for users to refill. Be wary.

2. It depends. Some people go through about 1.5 ml a day (I do using small attys and carts and not constantly vaping). Some people go through 3-5ml a day or more. Judging by the more intense flavor of cartos, I would guess they vaporize more eliquid per puff than the average cart+atty. Larger or more powerful attys (on bigger batteries) probably vaporize more liquid per puff than a smaller atty. And everyone vapes differently, takes drags more or less often, has a big mouth/lungs or small, etc etc etc

A typical carto holds 1ml, some hold 1.5. But you don't want to run them dry or you could singe the stuffing and then it's hard to make it taste good again if you had planned on refilling it.

Good starter models for a moderate smoker who can charge batteries during the day (w/ AC or a PCC)
510 (cart model, variety of blank cartos available)
901 (softer but tasty hit, don't know if cartos available)
KR808D-1 (aka Vapor King at Vapor4Life) - a dedicated cartomizer model, many prefilled and blank cartos available, can also use 901 atty/carts with no adapter (or 510 w/ adapter) though both attys make the unit longer

For a heavy smoker or if much longer battery life needed - look at the fat battery models of the above minis (and I would say 510-based fat battery units probably have the widest variety of attys and blank cartos etc, especially low resistance attys for bigger hit etc)...
Ego (based on 510)
Riva (based on choice of 510 or 901)
Elegant Easy (based on KR808D-1)

I have been vaping going on three months - for me I want the ease of the prefilled cartomizers - they are a little more expensive but the convience is worth it for me. I use V4L KR8808D XL batteries. The use 1 - 2 cartomizers a day. In regards to batteries, the XLs last me 4-6 hours. Good luck - whatever you choose your body will appreciate the change I also smoke a pack a day before switching

Hi. Welcome to ECF. I'm no expert, but I'll try to answer some of your questions. Let's start with juice. Most people (the average, anyway) vape about 3ml per day....so a 10ml bottle would last about 3 days...maybe a little more. Now, a cartomizer usually holds anywhere from 1ml to about 1.5ml of juice. However, you don't vape it dry....you need to refill it from time to time and when you do, it'll usually hold maybe .5ml or a little more. I can use a cartomizer for maybe an hour of chain vaping (maybe a little less)....and I'd say it's worth maybe 8-10 cigarettes. If I only use cartomizers, I'll go through 2-3 a day. Everybody is soooo different, so it's difficult to really be specific on this.

My first "real" kit was a Joye 510 manual, and it was pretty good. I moved pretty quickly, however, to an eGo/Riva because of the waaaay longer battery life. Right now the Riva at liberty-Flights is cheaper than my Joye 510 was six months ago, so unless you just really, really want it to look similar to a cigarette, I would recommend the Riva. It's about the size of a Sharpie pen. E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings has them for $29.99 plus $2.99 shipping. That's my advice. You can make your own juice and it's really cheap. The juice will be the cheapest of all the stuff.....the kit and making sure you have enough batteries and atomizers, or cartomizers will cost more than the juice. And.....unless you just go crazy and go on a huge spending spree, e-cigs are cheaper than regular cigarettes. Keep that in mind.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick responses. Yeah, the vendors that I had originally started out with include the media-friendly ones like V2Cigs, greensmoke, blu, etc. ....then I came to this site and learned how bad these brands are!

Basically, I'm understanding that for a 1 PAD smoker, 2ml (roughly equiv to 2 cartos) is about the average usage. (again, depending, of course, on type of hardware, personal drag style, and other things that are hard to quantify). Thanks!

All of these questions really depend on how much you end up vaping....which you won't know until you try. However as you have already read, no carts lasts that long and in my experience....only lasts for about a 4-6 cigs worth. I agree with dormouse...stay away from those selling you false hope with cartridges. I actually saw a company claiming their disposable would last for 5 packs of cigarettes but was no larger than a standard Bic pen. For me, I average about 2 ml / day using a variety of nic levels and that satiates me (being a former ppd smoker), so 10ml would last me about 4-6 days depending on what my needs are at the time. I can't say what pv will work best for you. But for the price ($30-$80), a good 510 kit or an eGo kit would be a good place to start and get the feel for vaping....without spending too much money. Personally, I wish I had started at least with an eGo, would have saved some time and money that way. Since then, I have moved on from the eGo to modified pvs....but it was the eGo that really got me to the point where I finally started to think that there was something to this vaping thing and that I might be able to quit analogs all together. Good luck in your search, and keep us posted on what you decide and how things are going. Welcome to the ECF!!!

This is great info! I'm currently still researching and trying to decide which model to go with, but I think I've made my decision now and my biggest question was... how much juice or cartos should I order. I didn't want to order too little and end up having to place another order right away. I actually registered just to ask the same question, but you beat me to it. Although I've come up with a lot more questions anyway. :p
Thanks for all the great input everyone.

My personal "rule" for juice is: I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

For that reason, I have a lot of juice of various flavors, LOL. Some days I go through about 3ml, some days I go through 5ml. Although it's hard to pinpoint because I vape various flavors throughout the day. I suggest that you order smallish bottles of a variety of flavors. It may seem "crazy" to you right now to vape anything non-tobacco flavored, but trust me when I say there are some *really good* non-tobacco flavors out there. I never thought I'd want anything other than menthol. But now 2 of my favorite vapes are actually Chocolate Mint and Black Raspberry Champagne mixed with a smidgeon of banana. I haven't even vaped my menthol flavor in a few days.

According to that owl, it takes three licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. :)

Ohhhhh, vaping. :) All I have to say is err on the side of excess in the beginning. For your first order, get at least 30ml of juice and 5 cartos, maybe 10. Don't get the same flavor juice though. Get 3 to 5, 6, 7 . . . different flavors to add up to 30ml. (You will probably not like one of them, and it will be better not to have that be your only flavor if you only picked one.)

Then, after you get your gear and start to learn a little more about it, spend as much as you would have spent on smoking for the next couple months. You will find your own style after that.

You will make some mistakes. Anybody who says they didn't, is probably not being honest. Any mistakes you make will get you further away from smoking, so they really weren't mistakes. The only 2 no-nos with vaping are to not run out of juice, and not to run out of battery power.

i wasted money buying a rn4081, which some people like, but to me, seems like sucking a milkshake through a straw.
i also wasted money buying an automatic battery instead of a manual for my des901. i take long draga and i hate how the auto battery has a three to five second cut-off and then blinks at me.
also, i like this model, but i do not love it and i wish i had just bought the ego/riva.
i find that 10 ml of juice lasts me about five days, which is expensive for me, so i am about to start making my own juice.

For juice, how does mL of juice correspond to cigarettes/packs/cartos? If I were a 1 pack/day smoker, how long would 10ML last?

If this is being asked to be able to gauge the quantity for an order, it is always good to have more readily available than to run out and have to wait 3-4 days.

Hello!! I have been vaping for 7-8 weeks now & with great success, thanks to ECF!! I have only smoked 2 packs of analogs in that time and only because I forgot my extra batt. or forgot to bring my ecig to work, ect... THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN ANYMORE!! When I smoked my last analog (about 4 days ago) I pitched it after 3 drags...GROSS!! I use an Ego (after much research here) and love it!! I suggest going to a site like FSUSA to buy your ejuice because they have small (3ml.) little sample bottles for only $2.25 plus you can usually find a discount code. You want to have a lot of flavors to try. I think this is probably the single most important thing to being successful. You have to find flavors & strengths that work for YOU. You will only like about 1/2 or less of what you try (from my experience). However, if you don't like something, it is true what people say on here, put it away for a couple of weeks then try again. It changes. Also, smoke it for a bit...it grows on you. Don't get hung up on tobacco or menthol flavors!! I was a 1 pack/day menthol smoker. I didn't smoke more than 2 or 3 carts. of menthol. Didn't really love it. Now, I am hooked on anything coffee or cappuccino & very much starting to love chocolate (smore, choc. biscotti, ect...) How much do you need to start? I would get about 10 different samples & 2 or 3 5-10ml. bottles of some flavors you are pretty sure you will like. If you want a cig flavor, FSUSA has what I think tastes most like a cig...Purcig. If you want menthol, I suggest purcig with a few drops of menthol in your cart. Best of luck to you & don't give up if you run into a few glitches, come here & work it out. IT IS SO WORTH IT!!!

For cartos, most of the vendors claim that a carto lasts about a pack; however, I've read that this isn't really the case.

Don't live by vendor claims, no matter how reputable. There are too many factors involved with an individual's vaping habit.

so my first question: How long do cartos typically last? (take a KR8 for example)

A lot depends on the carto you have - and the voltage of the PV you use - higher v=shorter life, most times, not always. For me a bloog carto (808), lasts around 200 puffs - that's filled with 30-32 drops; a premium softcap from litecigusa (holds 22-24 drops) - lasts about 150 puffs.

For juice, how does mL of juice correspond to cigarettes/packs/cartos? If I were a 1 pack/day smoker, how long would 10ML last?

I was a 1 pad analog user, and I found that 10ml last me 6-7 days, roughly. Sometimes, you'll want to vape more - sometimes less. Also, depends on the juice and the PV - for example, when I use my 808 PT (5v) I run thru juice faster than when I'm on the road vaping a batt at 3.7v -

A 30 drop carto lasts me until evening - then, I may use either the PT or a batt if I'm out and about - if I'm stuck at home working until the wee hours, I'll go thru about 40 drops on my PT.

Oh, and any recommendations for a starter model? I understand that 510/manual is a popular choice. Any others?

Everyone has their own 'sweet spot' - the trick is finding yours. I've learned a lot from this forum - some say the 510 is a good start - OTOH, I've heard a lot of complaints about the battery life. Also, 510 users then typically recommend you graduate to a Joye EGO or Riva - which then tends to lead towards atomizers and dripping. I prefer the ease of use found with the KR808D-1 technology and cartomizers. Whichever road you venture down however, as long as it gets you off the choke sticks, will ultimately become your favorite!

Congrats on making the switch - and remember, there are a lot of good folks here available to answer any questions you have with ANY product you utlimately decide on.

Thanks guys, you are awesome! After reading lots of reviews and advice, I decided to go for the Riva510. (would have gone with the Riva1100; however, there seem to be a bunch of problems with melting chargers [!]).

I went ahead and followed JCnewbie's advice (#7) and got it from Liberty-Flights. I understand that EastMall makes the only "official" Riva; however the poor Chinese-to-English translations and price ($17 shipping from China) turned me off of EM. I got 2 Riva starter kits (me + wife) for $63 instead of about $97. I hope that I made a good choice...
