Just to add a bit to what rgerber said, the nicotine content of e-juice is usually indicated in mg/ml of juice (how many milligrams of nicotine are in one milliliter of the e-juice). It should be shown on the bottle or package. Some suppliers indicate it as a percentage, e.g. .3%=3mg/ml, which is a low dose of nicotine. Common concentrations are 3, 6, 12, 18 and 24.

I don't want to be contentious or argumentative, but the expression "6mg liquid" actually means 6 milligrams per LITER of liquid, not 6 grams per milliliter of liquid. At that concentration you'd get higher than a kite from the first drag and, probably, puke your guts up!

No, it most definitely means 6mg/mL. At 6mg/L you would never get a buzz.

Like I said, at that level you would get a really, really, bad buzz to say the least. I would suggest you check any of the popular mixing software to confirm what I am saying. Example, I use 100mg nicotine base and mix at 5mg. It takes 3.11 grams of the 100mg base to achieve that 5mg level in a 60 milliliter bottle.

Just double-checked to make sure I'm not entirely crazy, and everywhere I can see implies/outright states that it's "mg/mL" of nicotine. ie: 10mL of 6mg e-liquid contains a total of 60mg in the bottle, or 6mg/mL.

You have to take into consideration that you're only actually absorbing a percentage of the nicotine in any given puff, and beyond that, 1mL of e-liquid is equivalent to about 10-20 "drops" from a dropper. That's not an amount that you can vape in a single puff.

Sources:

A study that talks about how nicotine is absorbed/the questionable "quantity" of nicotine that we actually get.

Nude Nicotine straight-up labels their nic base as "x mg/mL" (other sites do this too).

It contains nicotine if you buy it with nicotine, you can buy zero mg.

Also it is mg/mL. It clearly says that when you order on a lot of sites.
"Nicotine is mg/ml ; so if you ordered 100mg, that would be 100mg per mil."

"We're often asked exactly what 12mg or 24mg strengths mean for nicotine.
In short, it's the amount of nicotine in milligrams, for each millilitre of E-Liquid, expressed as mg/ml.
Some companies choose to represent this as a percent per solution, which is where you'll see 1.2% instead of 12mg/ml.
This means the same thing, just interpreted differently."

How do I choose a nicotine strength

Your calculations are right. You conclusions about nic content are wrong. 6 mg liquid does mean 6 mg per milliliter of nicotine.
