After much research on this site I've found some really interesting info but it seems I keep coming up empty-handed with many unanswered questions.

Here's my situation: I originally started off with the eGo 510 after a friend gave me a 901 usb PT and wound up with the 510 to 901 adapter and 901 atty. I have tried many approaches and tried 510/510 LR, 901 and wind up in the same place. I found my favorite vape at vikingvapor.com 50/50 PG/VG 36mg juice... however, my atty's after "break-in" tend to not produce decent vapor after a few hits. I've tried various cleaning methods and keep going back to scratching my head trying to figure out where I'm going wrong.

If I've missed a link or had an oversight, please point me in the right direction.

I use vikingvapor.com for juice and vaporkings.com as my ecig supplier.

Seems to me you are having wicking issues. The filler in the cartridges needs to be able to wick the e-liquid to the atomizer and we have yet to find a filler that can keep up with how quickly we take hits off the e-cigarette.
Seeing as you are using a 50/50 liquid it is a bit thicker than most e-liquids. Try taking out the cartridge filler and trimming it down a small bit width wise. AS you fill the cartridge with e-liquid use a toothpick or paperclip-extended and move the filler up and down, left and right as you fill the cartridge.
After your first couple of hits be sure to hold the e-cigarette with the led end down so that gravity can help the e-liquid to feed towards the atomizer.
Hope this helps some.

Hi and welcome to ECF. I've had juices that just didn't work well. One in particular would clog my atty after only a few hits. It tasted great but there was just something wrong with it. I dumped it out so I wouldn't foul any more atty's with it.
Does it happen when you use other juices? You say "after break-in", does it do it before break-in?

Are you using cartridges (carts) or cartomizers (cartos)? Do you tend to chain vape or do you take a hit and wait a minute or so before hitting it again?

Sorry, failed to mention that. I use carts and drip tips. I've tried both poly and foam fillers. I sometimes chain vape or random vape here and there pending on the day and tasks at hand. I make sure that when I do chain vape, I let the atty cool off when I feel it getting on the warm side and make sure there is plenty of juice as to not dry burn the atty but not flood it either.

I also use the eGo 510 PT batt instead of the kit bats for chargeability reasons.
if you use that setup, you might take a look at cigeasy.com. they have a 1300 mah battery that meets up to your 901 without any adapter. As far as your atty issue, i've got nothing. I am a fan of gold label cartomizers. Hope this helped a bit.

I'll certainly look into that.

Just a thought. If you are doing a good job at cleaning your attys, it is important to prime the atty with a few drops of juice and give it a littel time to wick in to the coil. If you plug in a cart to an unprimed clean atty you will get burnt silica flavor.

yeah, I picked that up a while back before I even signed up as a member....

perhaps you are pulling too hard. I hold the batt button for a second or two before I drag gently and steadily for about 5 to 8 seconds. Also, if the atty is flooded, you won't get a good vape. After you clean the atty, do you do a dry burn? I find this usually brings my attys back to "new" performance, and it is now part of my regular cleaning routine.

Can't say i've done a total "dry burn" kind of in fear of popping the thing..... but it does sound like something to try.... worst i could do i guess is pop it....

another thing i've noticed, seems like i dont see the "glow" that everyone keeps talking about, hear the sizzle but no glow....

Thanks mark, I re-cleaned 2 newer atty's and tried the dry burn you suggested and now they work perfectly! another thing i tried while doing the dry burn was blowing back through the vent hole on the side of the 901's to get rid of any vapor from the Isopropanol i used to clean them in.

Thanks to everyone who replied/responded to my post!

Michael, I would suggest you let the attys air dry completely before doing the burn or using them, especially if using ISO.

Personally, and this is just my experience, I have found hot water to be much better than 91% iso at cleaning my attys.

I rinse them under hot tap water for a minute, then soak them in water that I've heated to boiling, and let them sit for about 15 minutes. Blow out the excess water, let them dry on their sides for a day and then do a dry burn.
I have tried many cleaning techniques I've learned here over the past few months and found this to work best for me. Good luck and happy vaping!
