Installment 2
As I meantioned in my first NEC, I am fairly new to vaping and I felt that having a novice's perspective might be helpful as most reviews/writeups are being done by seasoned pros... which I am most certainly not.
After cutting my teeth on disposables, then picking up a little eGo 650 starter kit, I've recently branched into variable voltage world. After researching a tad, I initially settled on the SLB eGo-V V2 Mega (1200mah). It had all the features I wanted.. VV, pass through, LCD showing voltage and battery level... I figured that this would be my go-to for some time, at least until I succumbed to the urge to pick up a higher-end mod.
My initial impression was that this was a fairly beefy unit. It was a large battery with a nice soft black finish. The readout was easy to read and the tapering by the button made for an easy press. It worked great;good power, comfortable in my hand, vaped well... but almost immediatly, noticed that the battery just wouldn't show a full charge... only 3 out of 4 bars lit, and for a 1200mah battery, it just didn't seem like it held a good charge... needing charging after a day's worth of medium usage. But what did I know?
Then, after about a week, it went South. When charging, the battery level bounced all over the place and it wouldn't charge... eventually totally failing, refusing to light up to charge. What a shame, that battery seemed like it could be a real winner. But it was torpedoed by what I can only assume was cheap electronics and poor quality control.
So I returned that and decided I'd go in a different direction, saving some money and going with something a little simpler; a Vision 1300 mah Spinner.
Now, the Spinner was a much better experience. Lacking the pass-through and display feature, the battery was smaller than the V2, even though it had a larger capacity (1300 vs 1200). I charged it up full and vaped away, throwing my Kanger T3 on it. BIG difference... with the same usage, It would go 2 or 3 days between charges. And it was easy to dial in a good voltage (haven't hooked it up to a MM to see the output though) so losing the .1volt increments wasn't a problem.
My only complaint is the design by the button. With the Mega, the batter tapered below the button, so even with the eGo threaded T3 on there, the button was easy to get to with my fat ol' sausage thumbs. The Vision Spinner, on the other hand, has a tiny turned bevel right below the battery. So with the T3 on there, its a bit harder to get to the button, so I don't/can't use the pad of my thumb... But its just a minor inconvenience and not something that would lead me to shy away from another... though I wish they gave me a bit more room in there. Hey Vision... taper that a bit on the next version please!
OK... So now I have a Kanger eVod on order... I can't for the life of me see the real difference between the MT3 and the eVod, other than a slightly different coil design (made less different with the release of the T3s). It seems as though it suffers from the same leaking issues as the T3 based on what I've read, but I am soon going to be able to make my own observations.
