Warning: This is a vent!

So I haven't said anything previous but I'm a criminal justice student, I am studying security, law enforcement and homeland security. I only bring it up now because I accidentally got myself into a bad argument elsewhere in the forum because I used factual argument to oppose some radical who's keeps bashing cops and the government, and recommend he keep silent on topics he wasn't educated in (probably wasn't a good part to add, but his post was insulting and ignorant).
I realize that a lot of people dislike cops but I'm finding that this e-cig forum is particularly hostile to anyone who supports the government. I may not like everything the government does, heck I hate the way they treat my husband and other sailors, but I support them and I try to learn everything I can about how to make a difference in the things I don't agree with. But here I am being viciously attacked by this guy because I listed things about the 4th Amendment, probable cause, and reasonable suspicion in regards to vehicle inspections. I am tempted to leave the forum altogether and find another venue where I can find e-cig info.
I hate having to wade all the hurtful, hateful and horrible anti-police and anti-government posts just to get some information. *sigh*

Thanks SudokuGal, I never even really meant it as an attack on the guy either,I wouldn't have said what I said at all but the original post was under the Law and the e-cigarette section, and he had posted a hateful rant that stated completly off-base statements with no legal factuality. Still probably an ill considered statement on my part, and I regret my first sentence of it and have deleted the post, and others related, to avoid further inflaming others. I reported one of his more heinous attacks and the mods stepped in so I guess I'll stick around. It's nice to know they're responsive to that sort of thing. :)

Kelly - You can always vent in the women's room. :) everyone is entitled to their opinion factual or not, but some people just can't handle hearing something that doesn't agree with them. I just take those types with a grain of salt. :) I'm reasearching schools right now to go back for Criminal Justice. I wanted CSI but it seems those programs are tied in with the Criminal Justice Majors. Good Luck!

I started out at Rasmussen, good school but really tough to keep up with their schedule and alot of their requirements are tied into the Minnesota State Police requirements. Now I am going to Excelsior, it's a bit more expensive but I really like it and it's easier to keep up with the work.

here is a link to the new military spousal tuition assistance program it's only $6000 dollars and only applicable to course costs but anything helps.

https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/mycaa/default.aspx if it does a site security certificate warning don't worry 95% on military sites do that.

Thanks Kelly. And I noticed that stupid certificate issue when going to the AKO website. Such a pain. They had an education fair at work with different colleges. I am looking into Devry right now or Keller as it's also known as, and they offer 50% off tuition for military and their dependents and they offer online classes. My husband also told me to check out AMU or something which is an online school for military personnel and their dependants.

Edit: And Thank You Sudoku! :)

Kelly, Don't take it personally! I have my moments..but I don't hate LE or the Government, just the politics of it. I am well aware that what we have though not perfect is better then most! I am not wearing a burka for instance. I can say what I like within reason without fear of some one knocking on my door.

I have had several members of my family in every generation going back to before the Revolution in the Military. I could be in all the "daughters" of whatever, if I chose. I am also the daughter and wife of retired A.F. members. I am the past representative of MacDill A.F.B. to T.A.C. headquarters.

Most of my family in Tampa were Police Officers, Highway Patrol or Correction's offers, Men and Women, Two of them served as Sheriff's of Hillsbourogh Co. One of those became a State Representative.

I took two years of law enforcement classes in Wyoming and passed the police entrance exams. We were transferred back to Florida before I could finish my training. At that time you had to be 5'5 or 5'6' to be an officer in Florida, so I never became a cop. (everyone sing "Short people")

Those people who post the hateful stuff are the first to call when a cop is needed! They are also those who are doing something they shouldn't be doing. You must remember that most people on the internet are faceless, they say things that they never would in real life. They think it makes them look so cool. What it looks like to the grown ups is teenage bravado at best and ignorance most of the time. Arguing with these types is useless, just like Sodoku says. They are typing to hear themselves type. Sense has nothing to do with it! Watch some of those threads and you see the real experts like Tropical Bob come on and tell them what's what. That guy is just amazing!

Law Enforcement has always been the bad guy for those who want to break the law. Governments is always the inane boogie man out to "get" us.

The truth is that Government is not part of the everyday world, they tend to lose sight of the little picture, i.e. one of us as an individual in order to concentrate on the big picture, i.e. all of us as a collective. It's something you will be advised to keep in mind when you start your career. I the person is as important as we the people. (at least I think so):p
And bear in mind that a some of these people think their political career is more important then their job.

Law Enforcement is a rewarding career when it helps someone and a thankless job when it has to control someone. The 'helped" are thankful and full of praise, the "controlled" (arrested) aren't so happy.

Right now we believe we have a product that may just save our lives, that product is threatened by people who may or may not have the facts. Or are even using the facts in a sensible way. Yes, I will break the law to keep myself off cigarettes. But I am talking about atomizers not .......! I will use "on the open market" legal means to do all the rest. Geeze, I'll lose $20.00 if my atty's are seized..most likely not anything else.

When you get into it with a member, stop and think if this is worth the hassle. Or is this just someones idea of foreplay. If you must engage go for it in a sensible intelligent way. Don't back down, don't be intimidated. Never ever sink to their level.
Try to remember that the trolls that pick fights are usually little toads living in mama's basement. Possibly they have mental problems or maybe they are so antisociall they think of every interaction as a friendship! When you understand these things, it's easier to just post a recipe in here and be done with it!:p

Hang in with us and learn to pass up the "bug posts" (those posts that are meant to annoy us like a mosquito). Think of it as good training for your future. Pick your fights!

Thanks MaryKay, I guess sometimes it just tops off a whole load of way too much stress in my life.

I'm a navy wife and my sailor is doing his sea duty rotation, plus I'm in college, plus I got two kids, plus I am a freelance fiction editor and research assistant, and I'm a writer. Plus my big lazy Rottie, housework, bills and other financial stuff, trouble with the neighbors, and a impending military separation and move back home to AK which I have to plan out all on my lonesome, including finding us a place to live and a job to support us since my husband won't have time to do much searching before his separation.

Added on that one of my favorite brother-in-laws was in a four-wheeler accident today, and my sisters truck broke down on the way to get him, and even though every thing will be okay I'm thousands of miles away and can't be of any help.

And I'm having a bad case of nic withdraw today cause I cut back too quickly and my batteries are being funky with me. And the cherry on top is that Thursday is my 30th birthday. So I guess it wasn't a day, or week, to run into an anti-cop/anti-government rant, which btw he did apologize.

I'm with MaryKay...rant, rant, and rant some more. Few people really understand the pressures on a military spouse (I wasn't one; I was military and saw it a lot tho'). Oh, and don't sweat the 30th...you're about to enter a great decade. I'd return to my 30s or 40s in a heartbeat...they're the best! I've never had any trouble with a birthday, but I too am not certain how I'll take 60...it's still a couple of years off but waaaaaaaaay too close for comfort. My body definitely feels my age, but in my head I'm still 35.

Thanks, kinda isolated here in SD cause we just moved here in Jan and I don't know anyone anymore cause all the mil wives I met earlier this year already pcs's out lol.

Oh and it's not so much the turning 30 that bothers me, as that I haven't had a good birthday since before I turned 16 so I dread them every year. Last year I went into labor a week and a half early on my b-day and didn't have the baby till my due date on the 10th of Aug, and that was the only good thing that happened that b-day. This year I should be able to mostly ignore them if my husband will forget when I see him that it's my birthday, and if my oldest girl would forget too. Then maybe it'll be alright, but I'm backpedaling all the way...I know my husband left a b-day card in my drawer before he left just in case but I won't touch it till my b-day is over lol, it'd be bad luck.

I'm looking forward to starting a new decade 20's sucked bad.

Kelly,

I'm so sorry you are having such a time. I saw part of that exchange about PC. You didn't do/say anything wrong. He was looking to aggravate. I'm glad he apologized.

It ain't easy being a military dependent. I'm sure it's more difficult when the kids are little. Heck, everything is more difficult when the kids are little. lol. Forget everything else you have going on. I'm a navy brat myself and though I firmly believe we don't need more gov't involvement in our personal lives I was raised to respect this country and police officers. I think you are 100% right in that respect.

My first baby dropped on my birthday, landing squarely on my sciatic nerve. I wound up in bed for two weeks before she came, two days after my wedding anniversary. My second was born two days before my birthday. All of this combined means I haven't had a birthday or anniversary celebration in the last 17 years. So I feel you girlfriend. Do something nice for yourself that day. Celebrate that you made it this far at least.

Hope you are feeling better,
Mel

Mary Kay,

I think we must be related. My family fought in the Colonial Wars and every War since. Most families that have been here that long are related somewhere along the line. Hey cousin! lol

Hi Kelly, first, I just want to be really honest, and say that I've been following that thread today, and I thought it was pretty hotheaded, well, on both sides really. That said, it sounds like you have a hell of a lot going on in your life right now, and took some of his rantings real personally (something I have a tendency to do myself :) ). But, really, we all get a little hotheaded sometimes, and little spats, especially over political issues, happen here all the time, and no one will be worried about that past about tomorrow. I'm glad you felt you could come here to vent, its good to have a place to do that, and I hope things settle a little in your world soon!

I also wouldn't worry to much about peoples anti-cop mentality, tough though I am sure it is not to. I think sometimes people have one bad experience (they do, of course, happern) and then people tend to try to paint the whole group with the same broad brush. Its not nice, but it happens, and I don't think it is the prevailing opinion here, just maybe that those people are the loudest sometimes.

P.S.
Just so I am super clear, none of what I said there at the start comes from anything even remotely resembling a high horse. Trust me, no high horses here :)

was this my thread on having your car searched?

I saw today that people were still posting there. I don't think I ever went back to read what people said, it was kind of a spacey at-the-moment question lol.

Sorry :(

Yep, guilty as charged lol. BTW we did eventually get around to giving some good answers, and I deleted most of my side of the argument because it was irrelevant. Ya even got one real life anecdote on there now (not from me I've only been pulled over 3 times in my life all between ages 19 and 23).
