AFAIK the only things you get notifications for are "likes", PMs and itrader ratings. I don't believe the vBulletin platform is natively set up for quote notifications, if it can be done it would have to be with a third-party or custom mod to the software
Considering the complaints we get already about likes notifications and the additional server load that would be generated by a quotes notification mod this is just not going to happen. We have to carefully balance the pros and cons of adding functionality to the forum through mods, before we proceed. Even when we do there are cases of unforeseen negative impacts on the forum, so we try to proceed carefully with these type of requests.

In my analysis, this is not a case where the benefits clearly outweigh the clearly defined and potential negative impacts on server load, stability and performance. This doesn't account for the additional complaints we are certain to receive over notifications :)

Good point on the potential for complaints. I often forget how many people don't like notifications overall, though I really don't understand how it inconveniences anybody . . . to each their own, I guess. Certainly wouldn't want to see something implemented that impacted the server load, though. Myself, I'd rather have pages load reasonably than know if somebody quoted me ;-)

Limiting the server load makes sense, since this forum is so busy as it is. vBulletin forums are obviously capable of quote notifications since all the other forums I subscribe to do it.

Thanks.

Again, that would be because the site has installed a third party add on. It's not an integral part of the core software.

Query loads with vB4 are rather high as it is. Each additional add on increases that query load.
