Not holding my breath, but I figured I'd at least write my representatives...

I doubt anything will come of it but it's better than doing nothing. I pretty much just followed the bullet points on the CASAA site. I wasn't really sure how to end it, though.

Dear Senator,

Before switching to e-cigarettes I smoked for 37 years. Since then I feel much better. I had suffered episodes of vertigo for several years. After quitting traditional cigarettes I realized the condition had been brought on by my smoking the whole time. I no longer get extremely dizzy when standing. Also, simply knowing my chances of getting cancer and heart disease are now significantly lower gives me great peace of mind.

Recently the FDA announced that it plans to apply all of the restrictions within the Family Smoking Prevention and tobacco Control Act of 2009 to e-cigarettes. Many of the provisions contained within the act are written with tobacco cigarettes in mind, and don't exactly apply to e-cigarettes. Not only would this effect current e-cigarette users, it would impact those seeking a safer alternative to smoking.

At the very least the FDA should conduct an extensive study on e-cigarettes related products and make specific provisions, accordingly.

Thank You for your time.

Hey man, thanks for doing this. We all need to do this. Be sure to stay tuned for the deeming regulations in april and be ready to send this out to every legislature you can. Its gonna take a huge push and we need each other. Great stuff. Please check out this page: CASAA: Call to Action! Connecticut E-Cigarette Usage Ban -- SB 990 and maybe copy and paste your response to some of connecticut's legislatures.

I did the samething recently, just copied and pasted and edited from the website. I also sent an email to our small town local news station for a suggestion on doing a story. Who knows, every little bit helps.

For now I'm just writing to people myself, but if the FDA deems against us, I'm going to enlist family -- because I think that legislators will often ignore "addicts" but since smokers' families usually DO support anti-smoking measures, I'm hoping that if family members of vapers write in AGAINST anti-vaping measures it will be a surprise and they'll take notice.

I plan to look up addresses of the congress-folks that "go with" my relatives' addresses, and send my relatives some pre-addressed, pre-stamped, envelopes along with some stationary and bullet-points, and tell them to write in their own words. I might also print out some of the brochures etc from CASAA links so my relatives will know I'm not making up the concept of "Harm Reduction."

Thanks for posting this. I read the first 3 links because I'm new here and trying to learn.

But I came across something in the Forbes article that concerns me, that being user comments attacking the credibility of Dr. Gilbert Ross, Elizabeth Whelan, and the ACSH. I looked them up in wikipedia, and did some general googling. From what I could glean from a quick search, the accusations seem to be true.

A good synopsis, although somewhat dated, is here:
Paging Dr. Ross | Mother Jones

Surely CASAA must be aware of this. I'm concerned that they seem to be working closely with an organization that has about as much credibility as a cigarette manufacturer.

Dear Mr. Smith:

Thank you for contacting me to express your thoughts on electronic cigarettes. Your opinion is very important to me, and I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you.

As you know, the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (P.L. 111-31) gives the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the authority to regulate cigarettes, cigarette tobacco, smokeless tobacco, and other tobacco products. I was a cosponsor of this legislation because it provides the FDA with the authority to take the necessary steps to reduce underage tobacco use. This law permits the FDA to regulate electronic cigarettes as a tobacco product, but the FDA has yet to exercise this authority.

Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States, and the best way to prevent tobacco deaths is to reduce tobacco use and prevent tobacco addiction. Please know that I will keep your support for electronic cigarettes and their role as an alternative to traditional cigarettes in mind should I have the opportunity to consider this issue in the future.

Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. This issue is very important to me and I appreciate your support. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I may be of further assistance. I invite you to visit my website (Home | Robert Menendez-US Senator for New Jersey) to learn more about how I am standing up for New Jersey families in the United States Senate.

Agent Smith, I emailed Senator Lautenberg....didnt get ANY response!!
It's probably best you didn't get any response from him.

Bill Godshall said:
In 2009, Lautenberg was the first person to urge FDA to ban e-cigarettes.
In 2011, Lautenberg urged DOT Secretary to ban e-cig use on airplanes, something the agency proposed, but hasn't acted upon.
In 2012 and again this year, Lautenberg cosponsored legislation to tax e-cigs at the same rate as cigarettes.

Yes, I remember you brought this up in another thread. I dont regret voicing my opinion tho. Serves as practice, as we will be sending many more letters in the near future. On another note, at least one of our favorite senators will not be around much longer!!
