I know that if my job was to ensure something didn't have major negative economic impacts, and I received information from multiple sources detailing how a large source of economic growth would be wiped out, which even the FDA admitted to in a roundabout way, I'd think twice.
Depends on your viewpoint.... What viewpoint would look at negative economic impacts in a free economy, and more gov't control as a good thing? If your job and benefits were safe and secure, and didn't depend on competition, but only on more borrowed (or coercive taxation) money for the gov't, what would justify and further your job security - more gov't control or less?
