An important thing to getting the smell out of your car if you smoked in it ... the headliner. For those that don't know the term, that's basically the ceiling of the inside of your car. There is usually cloth and often some foam under it. Smells love to get up in there and just sit and live. I'm partial to the product Odoban over other things like Febreeze. Spray as much as you feel comfortable up there and let it sit.
Also ... if you use the "MAX" or recirc setting on your A/C a lot, that will bring air from inside the car into the various air hoses behind the dash. Start car, turn on A/C and set to MAX/recirc and then start spraying Odoban up under the dash. The intake is usually on the passenger side down by the foot area.
At the end of the day, spray some into the air vents and let it sit.
For the house, cooling systems are inside air recirculating, basically the same as the MAX setting on the car, so that smell is up in the air ducts. Best solution is to have a duct cleaning done by a professional team. But past that ... open up the closet where your air handler is (or in the garage or wherever) and remove the air filter. Make sure the A/C is running, and start spraying your air freshener into it. I'm partial to burning insence in my apartment and will often place a burning stick over near the intake vent of my A/C system and the smell will make it all around the apt nicely.
