I didn't read all the previous replies yet, so sorry if somebody already mention it, but they have fragranced baking soda deodorizer and you sprinkle it on your carpet, let it sit for a while then vacuum it up. It specifically said for smoke smell on it too. Worked like a charm for me. I bet you could sprinkle it all over your car and then vacuum it up just like carpet. That stuff is VERY strong for a little while though, but soon that smell fades and so does the smoke stench .

I once bought an old Suburban from an old Hippie and it took years to get the smell of pachoolie (sp) oil or however ya spell it out of that car... so I guess if all else fails use pachoolie oil cause that stuff will overpower anything... I mean hell if it can hide the stank of an old hippie it can hide any smell...

All this talk about smell has me worried. Im day 6 almost 7 on straight vaping, and notice a big resurgence of my ability to smell, but so far, I cant smell old smoke or anything on my washed clothes ect ect. I did vacuum the car a few times B4. I CAN however smell someone smoking a great distance away now :). As time goes on, is my sense of smell going to increase to the point of this being a problem for me as well? I smoked heavy for 10+ years and I am now an ex-analog for good.

there is a pluggin ozone machine for the lighter outlet made. I've seen them at Walmart and autozone maybe. They are pretty cheap. Mine broke after a few months (I should have returned for a new one but lazy got in the way)
Your car might have a filter that could be changed.( I have a Toyota and have to take it to the dealer to get it changed)
Have the care professionaly cleaned and ask what they use and if it's guaranteed. Some products work better than others. I'd be worried about wasting money on a detail if they use crummy cleaners.

MY car smells really bad:shock:

I'd also like to point out here that they make little clip on air freshners that attach to the a/c vents of the car. The scent is very strong so to cover up cig odor, I might get 4 if nothing else.

The folks over at Quitnet (I think that's the name--a smoking cessation support forum) might have some useful tips too

My quit date in about 2 weeks....wish me luck! :D

OK, this is it. Gonna quit smoking on June 27th I think. This will be my 10th or 11th attempt, but first time quitting while having the e-cig. If husband will also quit, I plan to repaint, recarpet and buy all new clothes with the savings a little at a time....but how about the car?

The best safe air freshener is vodka mixed with an essential oil. 4 oz vodka in a spray bottle with a half teaspoon of peppermint or cassia (fireball candy cinnamon-like smell) essential oil is very powerful. Essential oils of citrus fruits like lemon, lime, or orange don't work well since they are not very persistent. Peppermint and cassia are very persistent and strong so only half as much is necessary as most other essential oils.

If you have any lecithin (cheap at health food stores), add a _single drop_ (otherwise it can get sticky) to any essential oil with vodka mixture to keep it from separating and make it disperse better, otherwise shake well before each use. For essential oils, call health food stores to see who carries Now brand, which is cheap and works fine for this purpose. They also sell Now essential oils (and lecithin) at iHerb

To clean out the air ducts in a car, turn the AC onto recirculate and spray a few times towards the intake vents in the front floorboard. Note that many newer cars have paper air filters in the duct system. You might want to replace these, too, although I would first try the spray a couple of days in a row and this probably would not be needed. To freshen clothes, make a couple sprays in the closet and close the door. To freshen clothes you are wearing, make two sprays in the air, close your eyes, and walk through the mist.

Warnings - don't spray directly on plastic or rubber or it will degrade them. Don't get in eyes, mucous membranes, or too much on skin. Don't get it on your fingers and then touch your eyes. Don't overdo the spray while you are in the room or your eyes will burn. These are safe enough for internal use as a breath freshener if diluted further but otherwise the strength could cause you to choke or gasp and will cause your mouth to burn.

I have stopped smoking for a while now and me care USED to smell like crap.

Getting a detail done on your car shouldn't cost more than about 20 bucks, 60 for a deep clean.

But what REALLY helps is the cabin filter, a member has already mentioned this, it really does help. Most of the smoke smell comes from the air vents.

Open your glove compartment, and look behind it (there is usually a little crack to see behind) there is normally a switch or lever to open the glove box further, either way if you look behind the glove box you will see a white filter, that thing will most likely reak of cigarette smoke. You can spray all you want, but the smell is just going to come back until you change that.

As for the seats, fabreeze should work fine.

hey great tip! I know nothing about cars and had no idea where the cabin filter would be. I can change the oil in a pinch & I could prob change a tire if I could get the nuts loose ha ha

For home use, FYI I have a little oil diffuser in the living room filled with lavender oil & vinegar. I don't think it helps at all.....Drenching everything in my fab softener & water mix does OK for short term
