Not sure about upgrading mod

Hi all,

I've only been vaping for about 5 weeks so far but I am genuinely amazed how easy it has been to quit the cigs doing it. Also great to see such a nice community out there. Anywho, down to my question:

I started out with an eGo pen but quickly got annoyed by the short battery life and need to constantly have it on charge. I then upgraded to an iStick 20w with a Nautilus mini which lasted me really well.

I recently wanted to upgrade to something with a bit more kick so bought the Aspire Atlantis and CF Sub Ohm mod. I love it but after upgrading it to the 5ml tank (I was endlessly refilling the original tank!) it feels a bit too top heavy and not really safe to have it out and about with me as my ADV device (lots of glass exposed and I don't want the tank to smash if it falls over).

At this point I want to upgrade to something a bit more robust with scope for the future and better battery life still. I'm not that fussed about size and weight of the device in terms of carrying it around. I've been looking at the Siegeli 50w V2 and the 100w plus. The 50w would probably do me fine (I doubt I'll be going over 40w any time soon) but for not much more money I could have the 100w and double the battery capacity.

However my worry is this will be my first foray into a proper mod with the need for removable batteries and I'm not looking to blow my fingers off! I've read through the various battery safety guides and I'd be looking to get a couple of sets of some Samsung 25r or Efest 2500 mah 35amp batteries. I'd be keeping them in pairs and alternating the sides when in use etc. I'd also get a decent charger like the Nitecore D4 or the Luc V4.

Am I being overly cautious not jumping at this mod or are there other factors with removable batteries I should be considering first? I'm definitely no electrician but I like to think I have some common sense! I'll be using stock coils (1.2 or 0.5) as I'm not confident to build my own yet.

I did look at the iStick 50w and the MVP 3 etc. but I like the idea of removable batteries and the fact I can have a fully charged set to pop in when I get home.

I should note I'll be using the Atlantis on whatever I buy and I'll probably also pick up a Kanger sub tank mini as it has such good reviews and the potential for RBA in the future if I'm feeling brave.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks.

Do it!

The Sigelei 100W is a great device. Has some nice safety features built in, and it sounds like you're already keen on what not to do (most people don't even know about battery pairing!)

One thing worth mentioning, those 35A Efest batteries have been proven to be LG HE2 rewraps -- as far as I'm aware, there is no 18650 battery with a 35A continuous discharge rate. THAT SAID: I have a pair of the 35A Efests, they work fine, and as long as you're not exceeding 20A (for you that won't be a problem) you shouldn't ever see a problem.

I recommend the Luc V4 over the Nitecore chargers. They just seem to work better (and just look better).

I love the Sigelei boxes, I have some others, including the iStick 30 and 50, but I get a better, smoother vape from the Sigelei mods, might be how they step down voltage, since I typically use .5 occ coils with a subtank mini running at about 20watts...you should be fine, just make sure you get your batteries and charger from a reputable vendor to be safe...lots of cheap fakes out there.

Hi welcome to ECF! Sig's are great mods, you'll enjoy the battery life and durability. A removable battery is my preference with vv mods, with that being said I order my batteries from the website listed below, LG HE2, my next order will consist of Samsung 25r's to try. They are perfect for your current vaping preference and even when you start planning to rebuild at lower ohms if you decide to go that route.

Thank you nyiddle and mesamay2003, really useful info there.

Feel free to tell me to go search for it but any recommendations for where to buy batteries (I'm in the UK)?

Thanks

I'm actually not 100% sure, I know it's a bit harder for you guys to get cells in the UK because of laws regarding mailing batteries/etc. Hopefully a fellow UK-er will chime in!

GNUK - thank you! Your post captures almost exactly my situation and my questions. Vaping for 10 months, worked my way up the ladder (much slower than you did) of devices. I've been using the Atlantis almost exclusively for a few months, on the Aspire CF Sub Ohm battery (I have a couple of those), but I'm looking for something with replaceable batteries.
Was looking at either the CF MOD from Aspire, or going with a box mod for 2 batteries. The Sigelei 100W was my leading contender, so I'm happy to see some of the responses here.

Just my 2 cents worth here. I've nothing but good things about the Sig's but I went with the SMOK XPro BT50 and a Samsung INF 18650 25R batt. I love that I can charge the battery in the mod but I also have a LUC dual battery charger for charging my mech mod batteries......(also 2 samsungs and 2 original sony vtc4's). I have had the Xpro for about 2 months now and it has been awesome. I paired it with a Kanger Subtank and sometimes slip my Darkhorse RDA on it with .3ohm dual coil setup for testing my DIY e-juices.The Xpro was around $85 and it works great with the Subtank and the .5 ohm occ coils. The subtank is 25mm in width and fits perfectly on the XPro with no overhang and no need for the beauty ring. I run it at around 27.5W for my personal preference but have taken it all the ay to the 50W mark as well as switching it into mech mod mode with no problems or overheating whatsoever. Food for thought.

Thank you for the replies everyone, really didn't expect so many great responses.

Going to take the plunge and get the 100w plus. Myepack (which seems to have a good reputation) is out of stock in the black version. Liberty flights has both the mod and the Purple - Efest IMR 18650 35a 3.7v (2500mah) batteries in stock. Never used this supplier before, has anyone else?

Thanks.

I've never heard of this vendor but maybe someone else can vouch for them?

Be careful with the 100w+. The fire button likes to stick. Also, try and get Samsung 25r's. I've never trusted Efest batts. Illumn.com has them for a good price.

I found the Samsung 25R batteries on VapeClub (who I use alot for my liquids and coils so trust). Can anyone just confirm these are definitely what I need before I order:

SAMSUNG INR18650-25R 18650 2500MAH HIGH DRAIN BATTERY

Capacity: 2500mAh
Max continuous discharge: 20A
Max pulse discharge: 100A
Nominal voltage: 3.7V
Full charge voltage: 4.20V±0.05V
Battery should not be discharged below 3.3V

Thanks!

I have 4x Samsung 25R's and I love 'em. Assuming they aren't rewraps, these should be fine.

I mean I really REALLY love 'em. They're VTC-killers for sure.
