i think i may be unknowingly killing my atomizers. does anyone have the average time to hold down the button on a manual 510 battery? i seem to be burning the atty or something because after a few sessions they get a burnt taste. and ive replaced my polyfill with PTB, so im sure its not the material getting burned. i replace the manual battery with my automatic, and the burned taste goes away.

I timed myself when I read your question :) I find I'm taking a 4 second draw. I only have manual batteries so I think the "draw time' became reflexive pretty quickly.

It took me a bit to figure out that when I start getting a dry burnt taste I'm running my atty too dry. I'm still only using polyfill with the straw-mod in a few carts, but over the course of a couple of days I couldn't get rid of that awful taste.

I did some reading and found out that attys don't do well when they are dry.

I put a couple of drops of clean -juice on it, blew it out gently, fresh topped off cart... vape. It took a couple of times, but I cleared it completely and I'm more aware now to top off.

Do you find a difference using the PTB cart mod? I'm wondering if I should try it.

I top mine off a lot - as soon as the taste changes I top it off in fact - the harsh taste is horrid so I either top off the cart with 2 or 3 (or 4 or 5 depending how dry it is) drops or drop a couple directly on the bridge (the sticky up part when you pull off the cart and look at the atty, looks like a mesh covered mushroom!) Either way works fine - and I have done BOTH too - cos thats just..niiice :)
I keep my button depressed for as long as it takes to draw on the PV - and maybe a second or 2 prior to that to 'warm it up'.
Last night I vaped so much ( really chaining it) i got a headache, so I was depressing that little button a whole lot. I dont think it would be easy to break the atty by OVER pressing it tbh. It might get hotter faster though and would therefore dry out the filler faster than the auto.

I take very long, very big drags off my PVs all the time, with direct lung inhale.
It's the same way I sucked down a smoke.

I think an eight second drag off my manual 510 is not at all unusual for me.
Followed by another and another.

Needless to say, I need cartridge filler mods to make this work.
Although dripping with the Direct Drip Cart Mod plays a huge part in my life now.
:D

But, keep in mind that long drags like that can fry your juice.
Well, of course, that depends on the juice.
:)

Sometimes, if my juice is not up to the challenge, then I'll back off the button a bit.
Sort of hit it for 3 or 4 seconds and let go, then hit it for a few more.
A double shot, if you will.

A full cartridge on a 510 rarely lasts more than 30 drags, so if you are getting a day or two from 1 cartridge I would say you definitely need to refill a lot more often. It's either that or you are only taking 20 or so drags per day. I literally top off my 510 carts at least every 2 hours.

Agree with other posters stating the cartridge is getting too dry. I've occasionally chain-vaped, with some 10 second or so draws on a nicostick mod/510 atomizer. The only effect I had (remember I'm keeping the cart topped up at all times) was to melt the cartridge walls nearest to the atomizer.

Yuck! What a nasty burnt plastic taste that was! But the blue aquarium foam, wet with liquid, didn't even brown. Keep those carts filled up properly and that burnt taste won't happen. In fact, you'll get to the point where the draw changes subtly to a harsh/dry flavor that tells you it's getting dry before it ever tastes burnt.

30 drags jeez I dont get that much from one :p I top mine off pretty much after every other 'pick up' (as in, I pick it up vape a few times, maybe 6 times?, put it down then pick it up again - TOP OFF..voila!)
Im using hte original filler (with a bit shaved off as I use more VG juices) and I think that dries out a lot faster than BFM in the 510. Could be wrong, but thats how mine is.
