Not sure what I bought

I have been lurking here for about two weeks and was confused about what to get. Last night I saw an ad for a store front e-cig store (not a mall kiosk) and we visited there today. The store had some $39.99 kits which the owner led us away from and took us to the manual push button refillable type cigs. There was a small skinny one, a longer skinny one and then the fat little cigar type. I bought the medium sized one which has the long battery with the push button, a part in the middle which heats up and then the mouth part which pulls out and there is like a cotton/net kind of thing where you put the liquid.
The problem is that other than the ego cases everything is generically labeled so I am not sure what type brand I bought.

While in the store I tried a few favors and got some good vapor going out but now that is minimal however the throat hit is strong enough it almost makes me cough. He only put about 3 drops in each end thingy so do I need to put more in to get more vapor? Or is that for taste only? Is it bigger battery = bigger vapor? I swear, it is like everything I read in the last two weeks went right out of my head.

I bought 18 nicotine in Virginia and then in menthol and mixed them, (smoked Virgina Slim Menthol Lights) and it seems a little strong on the throat, go down in nicotine or am I just dragging too hard? And the middle part between the battery and the juice part gets pretty hot, is that normal?

So can anybody tell me what I bought? 510 808 or what? We spent an hour in the store and since then I have had 4 analogs which would normally have been about 10 so I am happy.

One other thing, does the nicotine in the e-cigs
still stain your teeth? Sorry for the long first post

Hiya McDebbie and welcome to ECF....sounds like you may have bought a 510, the long thingy with the button being the battery the thing that gets warm is the atomizer and the part with the cotton webbing is the cartridge.(?) If so you definitely want to be putting some eliquid into the cotton webbing stuff. Glad to hear you are cutting down on the analogs, ad we are here to help (as best we can).

Cut down the amount of menthol you're using. That's what is causing the harsh throat hit.

Yep, pics would help. What you have is what is known as a three piece. Battery, atomizer, and cartridge. Or, in e-cig lingo, batt, atty, and cart. It could be any model, and any thread. The threads determine the model and what will fit.

Does the kiosk happen to have a website to your knowledge?

Welcome to the ECF McDebbie. Unfortunately the discription that you gave could be one of a thousand different PVs. Pictures would help a lot if that is possible for you. Also, since you said that you bought it at an e-cig store, do you remember the name of the store? We want to help. Just need a bit more information.

Welcome to ECF and the world of vaping. It sounds like you got a Joye 510 with a mega battery, but if you could post pictures we can be more exact. You should definitely put more liquit in the cartridge ( the mouth piece with the cotton like filling). Add drops of liquid until they are not absorbed any more. the filling should look wet but not slushy. Repeat after vapor production diminishes. The middle part is the atomizer and it is normal for it to get hot.

Your not trying to smoke it are you? A smooth steady draw into your mouth (not inhaled yet). Not like sucking a frozen milkshake. Then inhale if you like and exhale through you nose occasionally for a bump in flavor. Go back to the store and get more info if you can or snap a pic and post yo setup. We all started one, or twice. Welcome to the ECF!

Hi Mcdebby Welcome to the ECF. It sounds like you have a standard three piece ecig. My gut says its a 510xl battery with an atomizer and cartridges to hold the e liquid. If you could post a picture of the unit unscrewed and taken apart that would hep us identify what you have there. YES ADD LIQUID>>> look for a tutorial to filling your carts maybe on youtube. Anyway, remove the filler material from the mouthpiece with a clean pair of tweezers or a paperclip bent to a j shape, stand the mouthpiece up on a table.. the hole you draw through touchung the table. Drop In about twelve drops of liquid int the "cup".... this should fill the cup about three quarters full. Insert your filler material into the little pool of liquid in the cup. The fille will absorb the liquid. Drop a few more drops on the filler until it looks wet . Drop a drop or two into the atomizer bridge, thats the little arc that is sticking up in the middle of where the mouthpiece seats into. Now that you have a filled ecig give it another draw....
Yes the middle section gets hot to produce the vapor you are enjoying. Its supposed to do that.
The harshness you are experiencing MAY be from useing your device without it propperly filled. Atomizers like to be wet when they are dry they tend to produce way too much heat and a harshness that is generally undesireable.
Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

I'm not supposed to "smoke" it? Feels like I am a kid trying to learn how to smoke all over again.

I LOL'ed at that, thanks. But yeah, the 'draw' for a PV is different, at least for me. I kinda hit mine like I used to with a ....., if you know what I mean(?).:vapor:

Thanks for the responses. I looked at their website (The Vapin Place) and it appears I bought a 510 with the 280 mah battery. He said to only put 7-8 drops in so maybe that was my problem, seems better now.

Mcdebbie, I visited this store for some juice when I was in Ft. Lauderdale on business a few weeks ago (lucky for me, I was staying at the Renaissance there on Pine Island across the 595, so super convenient!). I didn't look closely at their starter kits as I was there for juice, but I seem to recall that the larger kits were Echos (black box with fancy gold writing).

I spent a while talking with them while I was there, they are just getting started, but are good people and I'm sure they would help you either identify your kit -and/or- help you get your vaping technique down. They were also very open about sampling juices... maybe another juice may be easier for you to start.

But immediately other things come to mind:

1) Was the cartomizer (the "end-thingy" with the cotton in it) pre-filled, or was it empty? If empty, 3 drops is NOT enough to fill it. You could be getting burnt filler, hence their recommendations to add more juice. Usually cartomizers ("cartos") take at least 10 drops or so, and are filled from the bottom using the "condom method" (do a search here for this) to keep from getting dry hits.

2) Their juice is 100% PG (Hangsen juice if I recall), which takes some getting used to. I found their juice much harsher to my throat than my PG/VG blend juice from Pink Spot or Backwoods Brew.

As others have said, nice slow 3-5 second draw into the mouth, hold for a sec or two, inhale, exhale. eCigs also don't take as hard of a draw like analogs, so draw lightly. Have some water nearby as well until your throat gets used to the PG... it seemed like I was always thirsty my first week or so, but into my 3rd week and I've adjusted and feeling fine.

Hope this helps... and don't feel bad about asking them for advice as well. I spoke with the wife of the husband/wife team that owns the shop (but can't recall her name!), and she is actively trying to promote eCig use.
