Hey everyone, I want to say thanks ahead of time, as I step into this journey and try to quit smoking. I am disabled with a rare joint disease, and smoking is making it worse. I have wanted to quit for years, but was unsure how to. I have spent hours reading this site, and to be honest I am so lost, I do not know where to begin. I am kind of nervous because a friend of mine vapes, and when I tried hers, I had such a rush, that I was dizzy and felt like I was going to pass out. I am not sure what strength she uses. Anyway I smoke a pack a day of Marlboro lights. So with that being said, if you c\all could help me get started, and point me in the right direction, that would be great. Thanks everyone and have a good day.

Welcome to ECF. I started out, and am still currently using, an ego type battery with a clearomizer (holds the liquid). Higher nicotine may have given you that reaction. I began with 18mg, but needed a little more so tried some 24mg. I began this in July and am now at 12mg and considering dropping to maybe 8mg the next time I order. I smoked a "light" cigarette, too, but everyone is a little different with that. Discounmt Vapers sells many types of kits, so do many other vendors, which I'm sure others will suggest. I've just had great experiences with them. The higher the mAh, the longer the battery lasts between charges.

Good luck to you! Keep posting questions and they'll get answered lightning fast by people FAR more experienced than me. :)

I felt the same way, and yes, cigs are loaded with stuff that wont help you be healthy or heal (not scolding you, just pointing that out)

First off, ask your friend what the nic content was in that vape, I started vaping *today* and I have only 24mg juice and its kicking my ..... The other stuff I ordered is not 24, its 18 and some 12mg stuff. So, since I like to smoke Camel filters like a chimney, I can instead puff away and not get overdosed on nicotine in the process.

This is the kit I got, two batteries, two pyrex tanks, the batts were even charged quite a bit right out of the box so I been hitting 'em hard: Kanger Mini Protank 2 Starter Kit -VV. The kit was $60, I spent about $10 more on 3 5ml bottles. You can get free shipping for orders over $50.

I got some juice from them, but I also ordered a selection of juices from places that folks' seem to rave about on here -

avejuice.com - this is the place that sells Boba's Bounty, dunno if I'll like it, but its been mentioned many times in threads I've read. I got 12ml of 18mg juice. There is another place that sells juice by the same name, but its NOT AVEJUICE at all. So take that as a warning please. This bottle was about $11, plus maybe a little for shipping.

vapeland.org - aliceinvapeland is another place that folks rave about, so I picked a sampler - you get to choose what flavors you want.
A Delectable Sampler × 1
1):Lemon Loves Cake
2):White Rabbit
3):April Moon
4):Mystic Mandalime
5):Twas Brillig

these are all tiny bottles (3ml) and its again 18mg juice. I had no idea that 24mg nic stuff would be so strong lol. But I guess a Camel cigarette is more like an 18mg dose of nicotine. A light cig might be in the 12mg range. But lets ask other folks, there are many opinions and folks on this forum. AiV's price for those 5 bottles was about $15.

Last I got some juice from ahlusion.us:

Blueberry Vanilla Cake
Bottle Size 30ml
Strength 12mg
VG/PG 70VG - 30PG

Notice I finally wised up and dropped the nicotine dose lol. This bottle was about $16? Ah...looking at notes, think it was $18 but that includes shipping.

The vape kit is majorly easy to use - one piece was missing from one of my tanks, but the kit included one (the beauty ring, where the coil screws into), so a few minutes of confusion and the mist finally cleared and I was vaping.

Hope all that helps, its not hard but yes its confusing as hell. But dont skimp on juice, get really good juice maker's stuff. I'm hoping I picked some really tasty ones.

This is what I started on, a $15 kanger evod basic kit from Vape Dojo. It comes with the Evod, a battery and the recharger, all you really need to begin. Add in a bit of juice and postage and you've invested $20 total. So start out with about 12mg nic probably and see if that is too strong or weak and then adjust it from there with your next purchase. Now I have two evods, three batteries, three protank minis, 15 types of juices, two chargers, various head replacements, should I go on? LOL. So if you like it you will probably end up like me and start going hog wild getting some new toys to play with.

Start with a kit...I have a CE5 ego kit and an EVOD ego kit.
They are great starter kits and include everything you need (maybe not juice sample, depends on vendor).
If you have a local vape shop they should have both of them.
Don't worry you can get nicotine in different strengths. A local vape shop, if they are worth a salt, can talk to you about how to start off with the nicotine strength based on what you used to smoke/day. Mine did anyway, they were very helpful. :)
Good luck.

First and foremost, I can understand your frustration. ECF is full of users who have been vaping for various amounts of time and the majority have complex setups and have made this a hobby. There's of coarse nothing wrong with that, I would consider myself among them. I however know that there are very few B&M dealers that have a lot of knowledge and fewer that have any interest on what would work best for you. The good news is there is a lot of great choices for gear and ejuice flavors. To start with I woud start lower for your nic because it seems like the juice you were using was a tad too high for your particular habit 12mg is a good start, you can always vape a little more if its not enough. The protank or iClear clearomizers are what I would recommend for your first atomizers, people will swear up and down on cartos, carto tanks and the myriad of other available hardware but the devices I mentioned are clear giving you a precise idea of how close to empty you are and are both far more forgiving if you get a dry hit one of each is a great way to discover if you like a more warm or cool vape and the flavor decent on both allowing you to sink your teeth into what could be your all day vape. As far as batteries go, ego batteries are a great way to get started, they are relatively cheap and easy to maintain the ego twist is a good starting point if you want consistent performance.

Welcome to the forum and best of luck to you. I also was a pack a day smoker of B&H Lights. I started vaping at 16 mg nic and did have some withdrawal but after a day or two I was fine. Honestly, I was still so satisfied with vaping that the physical part of the withdrawal wasn't too bad as long as I could still puff away. So I would guess you might want to get 18 mg nic and 16 mg nic or a little less even for times you just feel like vaping alot and not necessarily need alot of nic. I tend to like to vape alot at home at night while watching t.v., so I lower my nic for those times. Different levels of nic are nice to have for different needs that you will have. Don't let the strange terminology and lingo get you too upset in here because we all were confused by it at first also. Just get one of the starter kits that were already mentioned to you and start simple. In time you will start to learn about more tanks and things you can try out later. An Evod kit, Spinner Kit or Ego Twist kit would be a nice start. You can google those names and probably find different prices and compare. If you have a local vape store near you, that is nice in that they can explain things better to you. I started vaping a long time ago and didn't know anybody to ask questions and there weren't any vape stores around, so I found all I needed by looking up the name of the ecig I bought on Youtube. Youtube has tons of reviews and videos that explain exactly how to use pretty much anything on the market having to do with ecigs. Youtube will become your friend in this journey. Most of us still look at Youtubes on everything we want to get or have gotten. And by all means, no question is a stupid question so please feel free to ask for whatever help you need! :)

+1, +1, +1

I lurked here for a LONG time and came away feeling more confused after reading and Ive been online for a very long time - so techie things are usually not a big deal, and are fun to learn. I like computers and fixing them, I like audio gear (pro stuff, and studio gear and thats nothing like consumer stereo gear)...but I still would get stumped in here for some reason. Glad to see im not the only one.

I wish there was a *very* clear Wiki that said: this is a carto, this is a top drip, this is this type of batt, etc...and pointed out WHICH piece of gear works with WHAT. To me its not remotely obvious.

Then its on to the juices, where imo is where this forum really kicks .... Lots of choices, but (to me) some names and stores have popped up more often than not in combination with some experienced opinions so that influenced my buying decisions. Hopefully I made some tasty choices, if not I'll dive back in here and try to pick something better.

I read that:
6mg compares to ultra light analogs
12mgs-light analogs
18mgs-full flavored analogs
24mgs- full flavored WITH NO FILTER! :)

My Mom and I quit at the same time, she bought an ego 1100 mah battery with a ce4 clearomizer. The kit was like $30 from VapeUSA. She smoked ultra lights, so she really did not want any throat hit at all, she chose 6mg nic level and is totally satisfied with it. They have pretty decent stuff too. There website is a little wacky though. I bought a 1100mah variable voltage (I can adjust how much power it puts out which makes things more stronger or less stronger...to me anyways) I have a Vivi Nova tank and love it, I also have Halos Triton kit, and I think I like it a little more. Their kits are about $60. Super dependable.
Hope this helps ya

I started with Blu because it was easy to get and it was like a cigarette that I was used to. I wasn`t happy with the battery life and since I was on the road all day a dead battery meant back to analogs for my nic fix. I`m on my second full week of using Joyetech eGo-cc 1000mAh smart kit. I love the way it works for me. Batteries last me nearly 2 full days, I smoked about 2 packs a day of Marlboro Mediums/Special Blend. I prefer some kind of tank set up because I can see exactly how much is left in there. the eGo-cc tank lasts me around 1 day of use. I found a local b&m that sells juice, I mixed tobacco and vanilla together and it`s around 18mg level. Of course I found this forum AFTER I decided to try vaping and making my purchases. With the Blu I could never completely quit regular cigarettes. With my new steup I had 3 anaolgs left in the morning, smoked em on the way to work and never looked back. Good Luck!!!!

Welcome to ECF and congrats on asking for advice on getting pointed in the right direction. I would suggest getting an MVP 2 for several reasons.... It's an all inclusive kit that comes with everything you need (except juice) right out of the box. Battery life is really long so you won't have to get up and put it on the charger too often. You can charge your cell phone off of it so you won't need to get up so often. I'm in no way making fun of your condition but only looking out and trying to save you a few steps since I am not sure how far your condition has progressed. Also this baby has plenty of room to grow along with your vaping knowledge as it is a vv/vw unit. It also is a nice size to make gripping it easy.... About as tall and thick as a pack of 100's but not as wide. Look at the reviews here and on any site... It is a very popular mod that can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. Also you can pick it up on 101vapes for around $40..... Good luck my friend!! :toast:

I agree that the Itaste MVP is a great setup for someone, but I worry that it might be confusing to understand it as a new Vaper and they might get frustrated. I find that new Vapers do better on an ego twist or spinner type batt at first because they don't have to understand all the ins and outs of wattage and voltage, and can just turn a dial. But once they want to move up from an ego twist or spinner, then I definitely recommend the Itaste MVP.

Welcome to ECF! I'd suggest Smokeless Image they have great beginner and intermediate products and for later on they are in the process of getting 808 threaded MVP batts(I'm still learning on that one so I'll leave a link to the thread on this thing as well as the suppliers site) Good luck on your journey and have fun!

Hey Brokenwing! Welcome to vaping! :)

I started out with a Buck Naked starter kit and some juice from the same brand from a local gas station, after trying a few disposable cigalikes. My starter kit was great for the first week or so then I started seeking out the perfect juice and a better quality atomizer, which I found with the kanger evod. Now... 41 days later I'm perfectly content with my evod on an ego style battery and juice from halo and mt baker vapor. I wish I would have began with an evod starter kit, but I didn't know any better...

Good luck, and don't get discouraged if you don't love the set up or juice that you begin with... there is something better out there.

First I want to thank you all for every suggestion posted. Armed with the knowledge I learned here I went to a local shop here in my town. The clerk there was a really good guy, and spend over 30 minutes with me, explaining everything, and letting me try different flavors. I told him I was interested in purchasing the Kanger model, and he advised me to invest 10 dollars in a Ego CE4, to see if it works for me before I get a investment wrapped in this. So the next thing was liquid. He has a pg blend that he carries, and advised me strongly to start off with 24mg. I was nervous thinking this was strong but agreed. He stated to try it, and if It does not work to come back. Well I believe it may be to strong, I get that spaced feeling, and dizziness, so I will go back tomorrow. Overall I am happy and going to continue to pursue this. So how do you think I did on my first endeavor.
