I live in this little unadvanced area called Humboldt County; Eureka, to be exact. Its at the top of Cali, and its so different than the rest of the state that the weather sucks most of the year. I have been vaping on and off for a while, and I just decided to "quit" again. I was doing good at first, then fell off the wagon...

Anyway, I had never seen anyone else using an ecig in public, aside from my mom after I got her one. And for the first time, I saw someone with one outside of a bar I was at. My buddy actually noticed the little blue light, and being the first time Ive witnessed another vapor in real life, I went and talked to him about it.

I showed him my 510, and he had a...Blu.

Now,I started with a blu, and I didnt find them horrible, but all the talk about the 510, and the dislike of the blu made me want to switch. And being a poor college student, I sent the blu back $$. Im just wondering, should I have told him about the dissatisfaction blu has to offer, all the while insulting his PV? I didn't want to be rude, but afterwards I felt a little bad for not enlightening him apon the 510, or the forum for that matter.

What'chal think?

Well I can appreciate that you're at least a person that doesn't want to be rude or offend someone. But I think I would have enlightened him a little, but not in a way to make him feel stupid for purchasing a Blu. I always refer people to this forum, and just hope they will read it and purchase the PV that's best for them. Just my opinion.. ;)

I'm not one to tell someone that that bought a piece of junk and should have bought "this" instead. But a little tact can be a good thing as I would have told him about my own 510 and the advantages I've found it has over his PV and enlightened him some.

TACT "The ability to tell a person to go to hell and make them feel happy to be on their way."

Hehe. What a funny question. Not laughing at you for asking - just amused because it's the type of thing I myself would wonder about.

Personally, I tend to be somewhat lacking in tact & think everyone is entitled to my opinion. :p I don't actually end up offending people as much as you might think, because I'm polite about it.

I'm not sure how long you talked to this guy. If it was just a couple sentences, probably not the right moment to lecture. :D But, sure, if you chatted for a bit, I don't see why you couldn't give your opinion. I wouldn't go with "Your PV sucks." Hehe. Just be polite & frame it more as... hrm... curiosity. Like "I see you have a Blu. I had one for a while & it really didn't appeal to me because of xyz. What do you like about it?" Then depending on his response, you can use that as an opening to talk about your 510. If he says the Blu has good battery life or something (made-up example)... you can tell him how the 510 compares... maybe talk about PCCs since Blu doesn't seem to have one. If he can't give you a good answer & just says "Oh, it's my first one," you could point out features he might end up wanting in the future, etc.

Personally, I'm always open to new information as long as the person telling me isn't a jerk about it. I'm getting to be less of a newb now, but if it was a week ago & I'd been that guy, I would have found your information very useful. So, I'd say unless the person starts acting offended, sure... opine away.

It's just a matter of orchestrating the conversation a bit & keeping the tone polite. :) A generalization here, but mostly true - guys like gadgets. You can rarely go wrong getting all techy with a guy about his new toys. With girls... uhm... can't help you there. I am a girl, but I still haven't figured out what most girls are all about. Haha. Someone else will have to give you pointers on that one!

Good luck - RR

Ah if ya can turn someone on to this forum, theyll figure out that their "truck stop PV" sucks...

Just yesterday I retired my week old, and struggling to keep up Gamucci Micro for my new 510 with 5 extra batteries and enough carts to keep me happy for a long while... Good upgrade. After getting on here I just kinda felt ripped off as far as the Gamucci was involved, but hey, ya gotta get into it somehow.

Hi neighbor... (relatively speaking -- I'm in Redding. :) )

People will tend to feel defensive and feel they have to stand by their purchase if you don't approach it very carefully. The best way? Talk up your current model half to death. Demonstrate it. Whip out a fresh cart and give someone a chance to see for themselves -- carts are cheap for a 510.

If I see you outside a bar vapin on that 510, I'll probably whip out my KR808d and a few carts and say "Yeah, been there, it's a great PV but you will LOVE this one for how easy it is!!" Make the other person intrigued without feeling like they have to defend their purchase. Blu does pretty much suck and rip people off regularly but no one likes to feel they've made a dumb purchase and many vapers started off with something similar.

Vape on in northern California! :) Humboldt County rocks!

I feel the same way about my SS Choice No. 7 - which I think is about the same as your Gamucci (I know a lot of the parts are interchangeable anyway.) It was effective in letting me know that I wanted to persue e-smoking... But, if someone had told me about this forum and/or vaping before I made that purchase I would probably have saved a lot of money & found something I liked better without having to go through the "beginner's experimental phase."

Hey whats up everyone, I'm really glad that I bought a disposable cig for my very first purchase. I bought it from SS Choice Number 7 or whatever that website is, I noticed that it produced no vapor at all, then I called the Smoking Everywhere kiosk at a nearby mall, he told me that his product could blow 6 smoke rings worth of vapor, so I went to check it out. I came very close to buying one, but after trying it out I realized that it didn't produce any more vapor than the disposable...weak. I told him I would be back the next day to buy one...I never went. I did tons and tons of online research about them and finally bought a dse905 and a RN-4062 e cigar...both of which did very good considering they are only 3.7 volts. I went back to the mall to shop and took my dse905 with me, which had been modded out to run at 6 volts. I was walking thru the mall and the same guy was working and asked me why I never came and if I was still interested. I whipped out my 905 with big grin on my face and blew him away! Haha Sorry for anybody that has been ripped off by Smoking Everywhere, Blu, or SS Choice because I came really close to being in that boat. Their products suck ... and cost hundreds of dollars. I got the 905 for like $55 and it blows them away. I'm not a newb anymore and I'm currently waiting on my chuck to ship...soon I want a GG too :p

The conclusion here is that you can google just about anything and figure out if it is a good idea or not. I have nearly been ripped off several different times and thanks to google or youtube I have been saved a ton of money. If you ever want to see how good a PV does then just check out some video reviews on youtube thats how I always made sure that they were up to snuff. I have only smoked one analog since I got my PVs and it tasted horrible

Vape on everyone!

i'll second what Michelle said, that's what i do.. ask 'em what they're vaping on, lie and say i used to have one, and offer that they try a few drags off mine. no need to tell them they made a poor choice, hell, tell them otherwise.. tell them the model they have is a great introductory piece to get into vaping but that if they decide to stick with it then they should definitely think about upgrading and expanding their collection. i've been there before, and i think i did a pretty painless job of informing my friends who'd bought poor PVs (a Blu, NJoy, and a RedDragon between them) about the better performance of other models without making any of them feel like chumps.. er, i assume i did at least, all i ever hear from them now is how good this or that juice tastes or who's got good deals on 510 or 901 atties. ;b

My first purchase was the same. Really didn't comparison shop. That was one of the first sites I saw & they had disposables, which is just what I wanted to start with. I don't feel "ripped off" per se. Yes, I spent more than I could have elsewhere & I'm going to switch to a different PV, but it's more a matter of me getting all excited & overly impulsive. I was pleased with the disposable, so I got the kit. And the company has been quite good about quick shipping, answering phone questions, etc. Not trying to say they are super great. Their prices are very high & I've ended up disliking some features of the SS Choice No. 7... but I don't hate it. It was a good enough introduction to vaping that I want to continue. I should have stuck with disposables for a bit or held off on vaping until I had done more research, but that wasn't cost-effective & as I said... I just got excited about new toys.

The thing is, if you google e-cigarettes the results are so overwhelming that it's hard to know what's what when you're starting from square one. I'm getting a ton of great information here, but I think it took me several days to actually end up here. Meanwhile I had to sort through a lot of nonsense & questionable sites & read/watch stuff so full of vaping jargon I had no clue what was being said.

That's what makes talking to another vaper so valuable. You can get their real-life take on a PV, actually play around with it, & ask questions or get clarification if you are lost. I wish I would have been that guy with the Blu. (Well... except the being a guy part... and the having a Blu part).
How about a dialogue? For example:

Is that a blu you're vaping? Yeah. What's yours? It's a 510. How do you like the blu? It's OK, I guess. What about your 510? [OR perhaps: Yeah. I love it! You like that 510 thing?] And then go from there.
That's exactly what I said only about 20x shorter. *giggle* How did you do that?! *sigh* Sorry, occupational hazard of being a writer.
*bow**grin*

i realy think people will want to learn about the variety of PVs available to them. i first learnd about them from a friend at work who had bought one frm a smoking evrywhere kiosk at the local mall. after two nights worth of googling (i am always sure you can get anything in the world cheaper on the internet.) i came back to him with tons of information and we both ended up making new purchases.

Totally off topic here, but couldn't figure out where to ask & since you're here.... DonDaBoomVape, in your e-smoking guide (which has been massively helpful btw!)... there are some pv's with a pretty design of like... bubbles, kinda. But can't find any mention anywhere of what they are. Would you happen to recall? These thingies

Thanks! (And going away now so I don't get overly tangential.) - RR

Rule #1 - Always feel compelled to let another vaper know about this forum... and potential vaper, as well. This place is a well-spring of knowledge about a brand new smoking-alternative...

As for hardware, well... "mine's better than your's" is a timeless classic way to have fun AND piss off others... so only employ it if you think the vaper is an ......... and DO NOT tell them about this forum!

As for my own approach? I take more of a "how's that working out for you" approach to hardware issues... some people like sucking on a low-voltage, phallic symbol... and some of us like to blast the Clouds of Doom with our favorite PV, Fogbringer (yah, it's like, +5 and stuff... and possessed... that damned cloud will suck out your eternal soul, laddy!).

Hindsight is always 20/20. In retrospect, yes, you should have told him about the forum.

Rather than lead with "That model sucks" I would have said something like - "Really? I had a similar model to that one. I ended up replacing it with this..... I like it better because, I feel it......."

If they are happy with what they are using, there is no sense poo-pooing it. However, there is also nothing wrong with letting them know there are options, either.
