"Young People think Old People are fools but
Old People Know Young People are fools."

lol. I agree with this but only on my terms. from the short life i've lived thus far I've come to realize that my elders are wise and by elders I mean senior. My parents are no wiser than me....maybe my peers, but not me. I find that seniors often have much more in common with their grandchildren than they ever will with their children. The old and wise see promise in the young and hopeful, whereas the middle aged have become complacent and simply do what they're told because "that's life."

I was recently talking to a co-worker (age 67) who told me to never stop dreaming, never settle for less, and to never let anyone walk over you. She raised her children with the "that's life" mentality because that's how she was raised, and it has become one of her life's biggest regrets.

I don't mean to offend anyone, especially all you middle-agers out there, but i won't sit back and say "that's life." I won't be the one shouting from the rooftops and leading the protest but I will contribute in my own way, even if it's small.

And as for Obama, he certainly is a politician and that's become very apparent over the past few weeks. Most of us knew this and understood this from the start. I just find it funny that the same people who were yelling at me that "he's still just a politician" months ago are now telling me "he'd better prove that he's not." I have confidence that our new President will serve us well through the rough waters ahead but I'm certainly not naive in thinking that he's going to help me out with vaping ;)

slianfoxob, thank you for not being negative, for having dreams that you believe in, for having hope, and for expressing your idealism. I am one of those middle agers, grew up in the late 60's in a time of rebellion and dreams, and unlike many of my generation, I retain much of that spirit. I believe in Obama for the hope he instills. He most certainly is a politician; otherwise, he could never have been elected. BUT, he is the first politician in decades to bring energy to our youth and yes, even to former hippies like myself. Positive energy grows into positive action, IF we allow it to do so. As for vaping/smoking and Obama, who knows. I do know this. Obama has not hedged and lied about occasionally smoking despite the awful criticism he has gotten. His transition team has flatly refused to talk about his smoking, making it off limits for discussion.....as it should be. We have spent way too many years living in drudgery. We need the spirit of hope in our world. Perhaps he can deliver. Again, idealists are important to our world now, just as they were to the world of our forefathers. Keep dreaming. Keep believing. Peace out.
