Hey all,

My 510 starter kit arrived a couple of days ago from cignot.
I have to admit, I'm finding that there's a bit of a learning curve regarding consistent hits. I've smoked a pack a day for about 20 years. My initial inclination was to draw hard, but I discovered that it really isn't necessary. I've also experienced 2 different "throat sensations", one being a stabbing scratchy feeling in a very specific spot at the back of my throat (not a fan of this one), and the other being very similar to hitting a cigarette. I'll assume that the latter is what users describe as the 'throat hit'.

I've found the most consistent, satisfying hits come from dripping directly on the atomizer. Draws off the pre-filled carts seem to be hit or miss. I also find it interesting that the first 2 or so draws after dripping produce the strongest throat hits, and the draws following those produce the most vapor and flavor.

Overall I'm totally amazed by the e cig. I wasn't looking to quit smoking as much as I was to start vaping, but given how much more convenient and cost effective the e cig is, quitting analogs seems like a logical step. I've only had 3 today where I normally would be down to my last few.

Now I just need to order some lower dose liquid as I'm dripping the 24 and 26mg that shipped with my order.

Thank you all for making this process easy for me, the info on this site is great!

Greebo, drink lots of water for the first few weeks. You'll get where it doesn't bother you any more.

A lower dose nic liquid is a good idea. I used 12mg and when I wanted a cigarette, used 24mg dripped on top of the cart or on the atty.

Congrats on cutting down. I think most of us quit 'accidentally' when using the e-cig. It was amazingly easy to do so, and the vapor is really enjoyable (and we know what cig smoke is! Blech!).

Just read about it today thanks to SethG, so I thought I'd share:

Boiling point of glycerin/glycerol (VG) is 290 °C
Boiling point of propylene glycol (PG) is 188.2 °C

PG gives the throat hit
VG gives the vapor

So it's possible, you burn off more PG sooner (throat hit at the beginning) and what's left is a higher % of VG (vapor).

And welcome to ECF!

Carts can be a little hit or miss. Many people have gone to dripping for that reason. I've been using a variation of the ADM (automatic drop mod) that makes a cart work like dripping. It's made life a lot easier and my already great experience even better. You'll find it in the CARTRIDGE MOD section. The 510 just burns through the juice to quickly to be constantly dripping. But that's where the flavor and thick clouds come from.

I'm not so sure PG gives throat hit. It may be the flavors and the strength of the nicotine. I don't even use PG and I get plenty of throat hit.

I've read it here a lot, but I don't have any VG juice to compare.... yet. I just placed a few orders and grabbed some VG and PG of the same flavor from the same place. Should make a good comparison.
