I am having trouble getting my ody to perform well with BB and GJ. I have to prime and pull for upwards of 10 seconds to get a nice hit. Currently using 3-4 wraps of 30 gauge kanthal and 3mm silica (doubled up in the coil), sometimes 32 gauge kanthal, also a couple dual coil builds, but always between 0.6-0.9 ohms. I've tried putting thinner juices like 65/35 HHV huntsman in the same builds and not having any issues so it must be the thick VG. Any insight/tips would be much appreciated.

Cheerios,
Ethan

Probably what is happening is that your wick is packed too tightly within the channels and not allowing juice to wick properly

Take your wick and unravel one strand from it (the wick is composed of several larger strands twisted together), this will put less wick in the channels an leave more room for juice to flow along the wick. If one doesn't do it, try removing two strands. You can still double it up at the coil, though

Hmmmm, how old is your wick? Over time, the silica loses some of its wicking ability.

I'm stumped and out of ideas on this one. My Ody, Penelope and Ithaka have all had BB and GJ run in them with 3mm wicks with no real issues. Only problem I had was when using the V1 rebuildable part with the 3.5mm thick wick, which I fixed by removing a strand from it.

Maybe try setting up with no wick in the channels, just across the top (trim them off at the outside edges of the ceramic so they're laying in the top of the slot). Setups like this have been proven to work, in fact this type of Ody setup works in much the same way as the kayfun. It may work for you or it may not, but it's something to try.

pray4mojo37,

maybe it could wick better by installing the wick using "MrKrinkle's method" (only wick at top), it works great on Odysseus V1.

If you have an Odysseus V2, you can leave wick only on the negative channel and no wick at the positive channel (ceramic channel), or no wick on both channels but using the ceramic assembly nut to secure the negative wire (as with Odysseus V1).

Here you can see examples of MrKrinkle's method:

Second link shows MrKrinkle's method with mesh, but it will give you an idea.

Also check Bishopheals's youtube channel, he has a lot of examples and good tips for low resistance coils.

Oh, and do not tight too much the coils around the wick, to no strangulate it.

get rid of the extra small wick your adding because it has no real purpose, it cannot wick any juice from the channels therefore it will dry out and give you a harsh burnt hit, if nothing then remove a strand or two from your wick and give that a shot. on ody i use 3.5mm wick and remove 2 strands and vape at .5 ohms dual coil and it rocks. on my ithaka i have 2mm wicks, 2.5 ohm dual coil @ 7.4v and that thing hits like a freight train. if its not working good then boil your wick then zap it in the microwave for a few minutes. wick will dry out over time and loose its wicking ability,. i vape only bb and gj in my ody v1 and ithaka and i have no problems at all. i do use the imeo wick from cov and only that wick. i have found other wicks to not perform well and imeos wick is approved for vaping. also check out bishops dual coil setups for ody. i find they give the best flavor for bb and gj in ody. bishop has a video for all issues gg and they fix every problem you will encounter, if not pm him, hes one of the coolest guys youll find on here and he will get you vaping like a champ in no time.

+1 on this extra wick at the coil isn't always the best option.

Are you using an aftermarket clear window? Some have a smaller i.d. than a GG window and restrict flow of thick juice down to wick channels. How do the bubbles look at the channel area? Do they form and rise to top of fluid or do the bubbles stay around the channel area until several small bubbles form a big bubble?

no after market clear tank. getting dry hits with this even with 50/50 juice. coil is 0.9 ohms with 30 gauge kanthal and 2 week old 3mm vapoligy silica toasted lightly with a butane torch (same as i use on all my rba's and rda's). i must be missing something very basic here lol. maybe some pics will help shed some light...

Glad it worked out for you bud :). I decided to try out the Krinkle method myself yesterday, using Bishop's dual coil/dual wick build in my Penelope, and it works surprisingly well without any wicks in the channel. The only problem I had was the negative silver wire that wouldn't stay put in the metal channel, so I cut it real short and then bent/squashed it into the metal channel.
