Here is what Parallel and Series battery configuration would look like.

A: Is parallel and will give you longer run time and more available amperage to draw from.

B: Is Series and will give you higher voltage with the same available amperage to draw from.

I think we all like to help people with mods no matter how elementary the question. We all feel the need to support everyone else who enjoys our hobby.

For a simple unregulated mod, two 14500's in parallel is going to get you closer to one 18650 in terms of run time and power delivery. However, with two 14500s, you get a flatter, more comfortable box. Though if you prefer a tube mod, the 18650 would be a better choice for run time and power delivery. There's one safety caveat with running removable batts in parallel so you need to be aware of it if you're going to do it.

With a regulated mod, you can go boost for increasing voltage or buck for decreasing voltage. However, buck gives you a wider voltage range and a much higher limit on atomizer power. Buck requires two batts in series. Boost requires one battery alone or two batts in parallel. Another option people are developing here is full PWM control, a simple and highly efficient way to control atomizer power, but you can't use a basic DC voltmeter to measure output. That one also requires two batts in series.

I have always been of the opinion that the only dumb question is the one you didn't ask. There is a big difference between ignorance and stupid. Ignorance only needs information to be cured. Stupid has no cure. If you are smart enough to ask a question when you don't know, then you are no where near being stupid. =]

Ok, now I have to drive into town because one of my transmission sites is over heating. Nothing like destroying plans to have a couple of beers like failing equipment... Whom ever invented the telephone should be shot... =] Just glad they called after I got off of the river.

If batteries in parallel are not close to the same voltage when inserted the voltage will try to equalize between the two. Because of the low internal resistance of the batteries you can wind up with a very large current flow between the two batteries. This can result in high heat and catastrophic failure. Generally the protection circuit will protect you in this instance and stop the huge current, however, you never want to completely trust a mass produced Chinese circuit for safety.
