Please have patience with me--I don't know anything about ProVaris except they're well made, durable and the company stands behind them. I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2.5, but first a few questions:
Welcome to the fold!!! You'll be "flying on your own power" in no time!
(1) I have a lot of LG IMR 18650 batteries but they're all flat tops. I understand they won't work on the 2.5 and I'll need button tops. ProVari is asking $12.95 for these (they don't reveal the brand), which seems a bit pricey. Are there less expensive options that would be equally safe to use?
You DO need button top batteries to run a v2.5
The batteries most recommended by Provape, is the AW battery. And an untold number of v2.5 users will tell you how perfectly paired a v2.5 is with an AW battery. They practically designed the v2.5 around the AW battery.
(2) I don't understand the top cap options. The "original bevel top cap" comes standard. Is that a regular 510 connection so I can I use my 510 atomizers on it?
The bevel cap is the standard cap, and tapers to a 19mm size. This will look funny (to many people) under a 22mm atomizer. Some don't mind the look.
(3) The P3 connection top cap is an extra $20. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that's a ProVari proprietary thing. I don't have any P3 atomizers and it seems I'd have to spend at least $90 for a Kabuki and I guess it won't work on any other mod. Is there that much of an advantage to the P3 connection?
The "P3 top" is a flat cap installed on the device, replacing the taper. It is comprised of the cap which has a P3 connection (proprietary), and a 510 adapter with beauty ring. You do not need to own P3 tanks for them to fit on a P3 capped Provari.
The Kabuki now comes standard in a P3 configuration, with a 510 adapter.
The benefit of a P3 connection is a double benefit. On one side, you get a MUCH more stable, and strong mechanical connection. On the other side, you get a better electrical connection to the atomizer. So whatever reason you prefer, you still win!
In my opinion, it's the best connection to have. Even when you install the 510 adapter, the connection is much stronger than that of the standard v2.5 taper cap.
(4) I've seen quite a few references here to the 2.5 mini, but I don't see that product on the ProVari website. What is it?
The Provari v2.5 Mini is the same device, only shorter. The standard or "long" v2.5 can use 18490 size button top batteries, and an 18650 with the addition of an extension ring or cap.
The Mini comes in a size that uses 18350 size button top batteries, but can be extended to use both 18490's or 18650's, with the addition of two extension rings, or an extension ring and an extension cap.
