while rebuilding my Igo-W rda, before firing it, while testing the ohms on my vamo, the reading will go from 4.0, 5.0+, to suddenly being 1.0-1.9 ohms. all i'm doing between readings is fiddling with the coils, hardly even moving them, just kinda tapping them. anyway...my question is...is the cause of this the position of the coils? i really need to know because i'm getting a horrible harshness and semi-horrible taste as well when i fire it on my mech. i need to know what to change. my guess is the coils...am i right? you guys think?

if someone can give me maybe a list of things to check/change that would be really cool :D

for the jumping resistance check the leads of the wire. make sure they arent too long and touch something.
also make sure the screws are snug enough to keep the wire from moving.
usually burning taste is the coils not heating up properly, a hot leg, or a hotspot/short., need to dry fire it and make sure the coils all glow evenly.

what kind of wire and wick are you using. this will help some.

i'm gonna rebuild again...while being extra sure the wire is secure. i was trying to a little too hard to not over-tighten this last time, i think. cuz i had just read about problems with over-tightening. i'm gonna re-attempt this now. if you guys are still around, i'd love it if you could read my update, in case i have further questions. tho, i understand you have lives, and if are unable to do so, i completely understand. will check back in in about 15 minutes ;)

i just edited some spelling errors

Like others said, make sure the coils aren't touching the deck or the side walls of the cap or anything like that.

I had this issue once early in my RBA ventures, it was do to the wire not being clamped properly to the posts. The wire I was using was small gage and the screws where not grabbing the wires tightly so they would move around and cause erratic measurements of resistance.

Ugh...last night I kept trying to post, but my internet connection is horrible. It was frustrating to say the least. Ultimately, I had to give up on rebuilding. I gave it another shot today. Everything read good... 1.9 ohms steady. However, the taste was just okay, at best. But...omg was it harsh! The liquid was 12 mg. This can't be the way it's supposed to vape, right? It's sitting on my desk. Would love to be able to put it back on my mod :)

harsh is airflow/coil placement problems.

in a rba the coil must be adjusted to the correct height for the air hole.

the airhole then must be put in the correct position so it blows directly on the coil not too high not to low. it also helps to get the coil close to the airhole as well. the further the airhole is off the center of the coil (side to side or high low) the harsher the vape will get.

aaaaaaand the wick needs to be good and wet and also not wrapped to tight or loose lol you also need to fire it dry and make sure it glows evenly

I thought I did a good job of lining the coil right in front of the hole. FYI, my holes have been drilled out to be a bit bigger. The draw was way too tight on the igo-w before I did. I'm going to attempt this again. This time, I'm going to wrap the coils on a smaller drill bit. And I'm going to anchor the ends to the tops of the posts rather than thru the holes.

Can anyone tell me what size drill bits you use to wrap both micro and regular size coils?

That depends on your wick. If you are using something preformed to a specific diameter such as silica you need to use a coil diameter that will be snug but not too loose or tight on your wick. If you are using something with a variable diameter such as cotton or rolled mesh, then you can use whatever diameter you want. Just make sure you only put the right amount or size wick in it. Micro's are generally made on a 1/16 bit. Regular sized is really anything larger.

I like using a 5/64" drill bit (thanks to Rip Trippers) for micro coils with 28 gauge. I think it's the perfectly snug for two strands of medium width cotton yarn from Michaels/AC Moore. For something super high resistance micro coils, I use 1/16" for 32 gauge. I like to play around with dual coil setups that will still fire on a APV. Keep in mind this is just for drippers. For genesis atomizers, I like to use the drill bit closest to the wick hole size.

peaches and cream? or sugar and cream?

I got one from walmart (peaches I think) and one from AC moore (sugar I think). I'm pretty sure Michael's sells sugar and cream too in store.

Lily Sugar 'n Cream

They don't have unbleached though. I've used it boiled and not-boiled, worked fine for me either way.

wait...wha????? we can use dyed yarn???
