sorry for newbie question I tonight dove into the rda world and bought a derringer some wire and a smok ohm meter, I have a hcigar hb 50 and my dual coil build on the HB shows .05, when I try to check it on the ohm meter all I see is 3 dashes no reading at all what am I doing wrong with the ohm meter.

I dunno what I did wrong I just tested my alantis tank with the stock coils and it registered that at .6 on the smok but nothing on the derringer
Did you build it to 0.5Ω.
Try another build.
Could be bad ohm meter or mod or maybe it got a short.
Maybe some attys not making a good connection with the meter.

Could see if 0.5Ω fires on the mod - If you put say 25watts then if its 0.5Ω should say its 3.5 volts.
Good pick up , yes you don't want 0.05Ω you want 0.5Ω theres a huge difference.
Though many don't realise this when typing it.
it does say .5ohm 3.5 volts on HB, was just kind of wondering why ohm meter would show dashes are you able to check dual coils on an ohm meter or should I use a car ohm meter and check posts when building dual coils, sorry brand new to this. oh and im vaping at 35.5 watts
Is it the ohm reader that you screw onto the "ego" threads, then screw the atty in ontop of the meter and have to fire the device? Because if it is..... Throw it in the freaking trash can.
Stand-Alone Ohm Readers are the way to go. They do sell cheap ones in B&M stores that are pieces of junk, so you may have gotten a bad one.

Yes you can check dual coils on an ohm meter.
Use an ohms law calc at this site as well as the other great features it has

Then check if on build the watts and volts match up with what they should be when using a certain resistance.
Though do want to see if the ohm meter can be sorted out as its good to get into the practice of checking on one.
I do so even though my mods can check resistance.

my old ohm meter got beat up, some of the tanks show a dead short [---] or [0.01] because both positive and negative make contact with the + on the 510 on the ohm meter.
This happened because I tightened down an RDA on it too tight once (derringer, nonetheless), and probably damaged it. Getting a good reading meant fishing for the right zone for best contact by tightening the tank down just so. Not too loose, not too snug.
Might be happening to you, assuming the coil build is OK. I tested mine separately using a multimeter to be sure, and eventually replaced the ohm meter.

Spent 30 or 40$ on a decent multi meter its going to be versatile and accurate If you do have a short you can track it down sometimes bits of wire fall in the atty or the coil is slightly touching. You can test for continuity also plus if you have one they are handy for automotive and household electrical trouble shooting, repairs, and projects
Some attys just don't make the connection to some ohm meters. The only thing you can do is check it on a mod or with a DMM.
if none of that works make sure the screws on your posts are nice and tight.
sometimes my ipvmini2 will read a coil's resistance even when my ohm reader and vv v2 show that I've got a problem somewhere.
