Ohm meter

I'm very very new to building my own coils on my new rda. Right now I'm using the built in ohm reader on my iStick 50 (tuning it on and attaching the RDA with the coil and seeing what it reads before firing) and, so far, I've yet to blow anything up and have even managed to make a couple of vapable coils

My question is it safe checking the resistance this way or do I really need a dedicated meter?

I have a little black box one for $7.95. I use that, and I actually use it to build on. But, I am safety...so I check it again on a mod just to be sure.

I recommend two ways to check.

you really need to get an ohm meter always the safe way and you can pick up a good one for $10 to $20 hope this helps.

You need a seperate meter, because the meter in your mod or parts of the rest of it's circutry. May very well be the cause of any problem you might be having with your mod or atty.. Doesn't make much logic to use a tool, that could contribute to an issue to diagnose that issue.

It definitely helps to have more than source of measuring your resistances. I have 3 VV mods and use each one to verify that they each read the same. Plus I use my Voltmeter to check them Before I put them on my mods. You can pick one up at Harbor Freight for like $5.99, but I recommend spending a few bucks more, if you Don't already have one around.
