I'm very very new to building my own coils on my new rda. Right now I'm using the built in ohm reader on my iStick 50 (tuning it on and attaching the RDA with the coil and seeing what it reads before firing) and, so far, I've yet to blow anything up and have even managed to make a couple of vapable coils :)

My question is it safe checking the resistance this way or do I really need a dedicated meter?

It definitely helps to have more than source of measuring your resistances. I have 3 VV mods and use each one to verify that they each read the same. Plus I use my Voltmeter to check them Before I put them on my mods. You can pick one up at Harbor Freight for like $5.99, but I recommend spending a few bucks more, if you Don't already have one around.
