I bought my first ohm meter so I can try my hand at rebuilding coils. This came in the mail today, and I screwed some of my stock coils into it to check it out. I was getting some high readings...a 2.2ohm coil was reading at 2.9. But when I unscrewed the coil from the meter, it didn't go back to 0. Ok, the description says that when there's no current flow, it will read "1". It was reading anywhere between 0.31-0.78. The numbers kept changing with nothing screwed into it.

Did I get a faulty meter, or is there a trick to this I don't know about yet?

Funny I bought my meter from the same place and had a similar issue. All my readings were inconsistent and just waaaaaay off even on stock heads. Emailed them for replacement and they said they would mail me a return postage to send it back. Never received it.

In any case I gave up on it, but the next day I decided to throw in a new battery of my own, and it was working fine although my readings are sometimes 0.2 ohms higher than what my PVs are showing.

Sounds like you have a dud. That's def not the resistance of the air and besides, they are supposed to be calibrated to only measure the effective resistance (it'd be useless otherwise). Def request for a replacement but fingers crossed on that.

GAH I just put in 2 different batteries, and I'm getting a reading (of the air?) of 0.87. How 0.63. Now 0.85. Now 0.55.

Fudge. This is nuts.

Something sounds like that Meter is Wacked. I'd send it back.

A Decent DMM is a Good thing to have around. And you can use it to Much More than that Meter you got with the 510 Connector.

I will go by Home Depot and get a multimeter. Now to do research on how to use a multimeter!

A multimeter is much more useful anyway.

I have the same ohm meter. With mine the reading depends on how tightly I screw it into the meter. It is useful for checking for shorts and to see if the coil ohms are within a range that is safe enough to put on a battery. I wouldn't use it to get an accurate reading.

I noticed that the numbers were changing when I screwed it in more tightly. But then again, I was getting a reading with nothing screwed in, so... lol.

MVS emailed me back and asked if I was having the trouble with or without the 510 to ego adapter. I told them "Both"

All this e-Cigarette Stuff isn't Hard. It just takes some Practice. Some Practice and some Patience.

And if things don't go well, No Big Deal. Just take it out in the Back Yard and Smash the Snit out of it with a Hammer.

;)
