Doing so will apparently lead to a short and melting of the spring and God knows what all. On my aging Grand, I find that I must tighten the atty down or have it wiggle in the threads. If I abide by the suggestions to only tighten it until it makes contact, it flops around in the threads and while it still works, it doesn't feel comfortable to see that kind of lateral movement. Has anyone else experienced this? Do I need to replace my atty connector?

I admit I tighten mine beyond the first sign of resistance....at least a full turn's worth. I'm sure it is probably different for every mod depending on the tolerances of the connector and the atty being used. I've had some atties give me a ton of resistance unevenly, so I only went so far before I stopped, fearing that I was displacing the insulator ring and setting myself up for a spring replacement. So the fear here is that a center pin gets pushed against the side wall of either the connector or the atty and causes a short. I wish I could quantify the amount of pressure I'm using, but it may not mean much since yours is different than mine. If there was a lot of sideways play on mine, I would contact Rob and see about having that addressed....but that's just me. :)

Hi Roger.

I just did an experiment after reading your quesition. I held the firing button down as I was screwing the atomizer in. I held the Grand next to my ear. By doing this I could hear exactly when the atty made contact. The atomizer was very loose and wobbled around. I then turned it 3/4s of a turn and it was then tight with no wobble. I always turn mine so theres no wobble. IF I turned it half a turn after hearing the atty fire there is still a slight wobble. I've never popped a spring yet.

Hello Roger you can snug your atomizers on the mod .I don't recommend wrenching them down .
General rule is snug it down no need to over tighten .Some atomizer will have the wobble you speak of while others are perfect depending on the company that makes them .You have been running that grand for along time Its possible the threads have got sloppy . If you decide you want it replaced let me no

Loren and Lisa, that is exactly where I'm at. I have never had an issue with a REO. If one's atty is loose in the connector, is it the connector or the atty?
In my case, I think its the connector because I experience it with every atty and carto.
That said--how important is it? Are we to assume that the center pin will make contact with a grounding base or might that be unlikely? I dunno.

Robert, my friend! The voice who would know. Thank you so much for coming aboard on this. I actually plan on running this mod until it won't run no more and then and only then will I send it to you. I will continue to snug my attys down on my Grand and not worry about it. Thanks for the comeback.:)
