it's a lot like when you meet somone with a new baby. Your mind bounces back and forth between asking "What's HIS name?" and "What's HER name?" until you finally decide to ask "What name have you chosen?"
:confused::laugh:
BYW, I'm a man and my avitar is a pic of my female, one eyed cat named Fraya.

And then you hope it's not Pat. :)
I've been mistaken for a guy online too. I don't care, it's not like it ever happened IRL. lol

Wowzers!!!
This thread started out with the potential for some serious negativity... I'm proud of all you ECF'ers, bringing the good vibes back to the thread.
As for me... I suppose most people try to gain clues from avatars, signatures, etc... Mine would be misleading possibly. I am a male human. This is fun, though... we should turn this in to a "Guess if the poster is male, or female" contest!

In all seriousness, though, I don't give a hoot is you're male, female, robot, or zombie... You're all human. In my book that means I give you respect until you prove yourself unworthy of it. That's just the way I operate!

I agree for the most part but I do draw the line at zombies. Not to be judgmental but why do they all have to be so messy? I understand the whole, Have to eat brain and un-dead thing but please have a little pride in your appearance. And that is before I even get into the whole blood and other bodily fluids / hygiene thing…

OMG, you just posted this after talking to me!!!

When someone says to you jokingly or mockingly "Yes Sir" (and gives a snappy salute) it's a reproach against your authority not gender.

YOU made it a gender issue, so tell me what other specific things have happened to you in this last 24 hours (as you say) that was also an assumption against your gender? Couldn't have been just one thing right?
Well , I'm a man , but I see members , calling other members men , when in fact they are women . Does seem to be prevalent in this forum . Case in point . Just the other day , a member said he would take a device , if the other guy didn't . The other guy in this case was Classwife , Definitely a female , as well as a mod . And with her name , and still mistaken for a man . So there's my take on it .

I too kinda enjoy the man/woman ratio here at ECF. I'm 45 and female. I'm an engineering student...all guys. Peruse a lot of technical forums...all guys. One of my hobbies is video games....all YOUNG guys. I work in manufacturing quality assurance...again, all guys. Lol Ive long since gotten used to being 'one of the guys', so its nice to actually have some 'fellow' females around :toast:

Ditto....ditto....ditto...

In college there was (at the time) primarily one building for the engineering classes. I was actually stopped in the hallway several times and asked if I needed help finding the right building for my class. One particularly jerky sort asked if I was lost and looking for the nursing school building. [Totally NOT a knock against nurses from me, by the way.] Watching those cocky types flunk out of freshman and sophomore classes and transferring to a Bachelor of Arts degree was particularly satisfying.

Also worked in manufacturing QA for several years as well. :)

:toast:

Ouch this thread started out rough. Is it me or the last 2-3 years everyone just forget what sarcasm and joking was? It seems everyone takes everything too seriously these days even on here D: I don't ever remember this many posts(not just this one I've run into) with so much negativity out of the gate.

And to be more on topic with the thread, guy/girl, doesn't matter I'm the person with a PV. (If someone somehow get's that reference, I will hug you!)

LOL, this is cute :)
A lot of times you can't even figure it out by visiting a profile ... I know, I've tried it! However I'm sure all of us have had a few   moments here:)
I doubt that anyone questions my gender by my avatar but if you do ... I'm definitly female! ;)

dale.ron. I thought you were male for a while :) can't go by the pictures!
I'm a girl (ok, an old one). I would only be insulted by being mistaken for a man if it happened in person lol

I guess because I have been an online gamer for years I just ignore it when people assume I am male. After all in gaming you have to be careful to say your are "Female" because GIRL=Guy in Real Life and there is always someone happy to point that out and tell you "There are no girls in <insert game name here>."

General philosophy for life: Don't sweat the small stuff.
