If you can't afford the provari, I love my itaste vtr. It is heavy as a truck tho, but to me, weight means quality

Okay, since I promised I would update when we decided. We bought Provari's. Love them so far. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.
And yes, it was much more $$ than I originally posted. Well worth it though. Very happy with it.

OP: This is my anecdotal response to your question.
I went through the same soul searching decision about 3 weeks ago. I started on an eVod setup, and eventually decided it was time to step up, but I didnt want to go through a ton of setups. Im not the "collector" type. I wanted ONE setup that would do what I wanted and offer great battery life. I decided on a Provari. Initially.
I went down to my vape shop and talked to the owner who've Ive gotten to know pretty well. He carries Provari's, and was more than willing to sell one to me, and he asked me "Are you open to alternatives?" I said "sure". He explained why the Provari was the "king of the hill" it is..all the things talked about already...800ht chip, 1 year warranty, lifetime cheap repairs. However, they are not without their issues, as all vaperizers are. The main issue with Provaris is if you use a clearo type tank, you typically cant tighten them down all the way on to the battery, as they can restrict airflow. This is talked about quite a bit. Its not a deal changer for everyone, but just something to be aware of. Also, they are not VW. Again, not an issue for everyone, but certainly something to be aware of.
The first ones he showed me were the REO's that many people love. Ive already read about them, and Im really not a boxy kind of guy. I personally just dont care for the style. I wanted a tube.
He smiled and said "Ive got a perfect alternative for you." He showed me a tube device thats VV, VW, and even has a programmable VV thing where, for example with thicker juices, you can have it start at a higher voltage for .5, 1 sec, 1.5, or whatever you want, then drop down to a lower voltage. Not necessary, but certainly a nice feature. It also has a built in pass through, and can be charged with a standard cell phone mini usb charger. It has a 90 day warranty, and a 133hz chip. No, its not the 800hz chip the provari has, but certainly better than the 33hz chips in the cheaper models. Also, it has a ton of replaceable parts.
And is 1/3 the price of Provari. I was sold.
So. What did I end up with? A Joyetech eVic with Nautilus tanks. I will admit the Provari is built a bit better, but Im not rough on my things, dont work in construction or anything like that. So thats not an issue with me. But it is really a nice, beautiful device. I went with Nautilus tanks for all the reasons people love them. I love that theyve got such a big tank (5ml). They work very well and deliver a strong, predictable vape. You can find the eVic setup for $89 if you look around a bit.
So, thats my story. Im the type of person who does a ton of research on something before I buy it, and chose the eVic. There are certainly other very nice devices, and I dont look down on people that buy them. They just arent for me.. Its nice we have sooo many choices now

I like my eVic also. No, it won't sub ohm or JumpStart my car. Yep, I feel its first drop will be its last. But, I like it for what it is, the features rock, built in charger is cool and with the 3400 math batt, it lasts for ever.

Because one drop can permanently ruin an Evic, and what do you have to show for all that money? An expensive paperweight. It can't be fixed.
A Provari will take nearly anything you can throw at it; its the most durably built regulated mod available. In the rare event that it DOES break, it can be returned to the manufacturer for repair. One year warranty repair free of charge. After warranty repair for life for reasonable parts cost. Typical repair time is 1 - 2 weeks.

I had an evic, but when it died after 7 months, went with a ProVari. When I bought the evic, it was $110, and a new ProVari is $169 ( most high end mech mods are much more, for less features) Yes the ProVari has less features, BUT I know that the price I paid for it went to an American business, and what I paid for was a consistent, accurate, stable and reliable power source, in a nearly indestructable housing, with a warranty and service to back it up. Guaranteed for 1 year (second year for $20), so I know my investment will last me at least 2 years (most likely many more).... What did the slightly lower cost of the evic buy me? Features I or many other would never use, a power supply that was GOOD, but did feel a bit laggy, and after 7 months, a paperweight.
Not ripping on the eVic as it served me well while I had it, and I did like the user interface quite a bit, but if you take away the fancy display, programmable features, and ability to download your stats to a PC? Is the quality of the device itself, and quality of the power it delivers really any nicer than any $50 regulated mod? In other words, unless you KNOW you are going to use those features, either save some $ and get any of the other Chinese made VV/VW mods, and be prepared to replace it if something happens,,or spend a few $ more and get a ProVari and get less features, but the features you get to be done RIGHT.
