Can someone direct me towards a video or tutorial on a fool-proof method for filling 510 cartridges? I have tried filling it until it "looks slushy", filling it until it pools and then dabbing off the top, using Pyramid Tea Bags, doing the straw mod ...... and everything I have tried LEAKS. It's making me absolutely crazy. Some are worse than others, but I find that I now have to carry paper towels, napkins, etc, to wipe off the leaks ... I don't care if I have to buy cartomizers, if I have to do some other mod on regular cartridges, or what. But please help me stop my leaks ;-) What works best if this is my priority?

If you have having leaks that often perhaps you need the filler to be a little more on the thick side. If your e-liquid is mainly pg then the filler needs to be a bit thicker. I have a vid that shows me cutting the filler and stuffing the cart. Not sure that will help you though.
It does sound to me as if you have yet to find the right size to cut your filler. I use the fluval fish filters and cut them as wide as the cart and just shorter than the cart-remove the stray hairs-fluval and fill. Click the link under my signature and watch the 510 tutorial. Maybe it will help.

I have felt your pain...and I know too well the hassle of needing paper towels for leaks, drips, and other juice messes.

After trying carts, dripping, and cartos, I have to say that cartos are the least messy option, at least for me. I use a drip tip and remove it to top off, and there is just no mess. If I drip through the drip tip, I typically blow through it and wipe the hole (since I usually get juice on the inside of it). Removing the tip=no mess.

I haven't yet tried the cartos that require the injection method, so I can't tell you what, if any, messes those create.

I could never keep them from leaking with my thinner juices. I gave up.

I use the CE2 R4 cartomizers. They aren't perfect,I'm about 90% happy with them, but I've never had one leak.

I almost always have a PV in my shirt pocket, leaks are not acceptable.

I bought a good drip tip and still get use out of my attys that way sometimes.

If you find a solution, please post it. Vape on!

For carts - that initial stuffing in my 510 carts was vertical fine fibers so I didn't try to pull them out and do a correct "fill" and instead I just added slowly on top until it looked a bit slushy. To do a real fill I think you're supposed to remove the stuffing, fill the cart about 1/2 way, replace the stuffing, dipping it into the juice to get it wet then repositioning the top of the stuffing. Then if needed add 1-3 drops on top. But I run into trouble with getting the stuffing back correctly etc. So I switch to blue foam plugs I cut myself. My 401's carts are narrow and cylindrical so my blue foam plus are a bit shallower than my cart (about 2/3 the depth of the cart) and just a bit wider than the inside of the cart to help them stay in place. I still have to use an unbent paperclip sometimes to reposition the plug up where it needs to be and I also use that to remove the foam for washing or correct fills.

For 510, some people use a tapered shape blue foam plug (like the precuts) or other shapes. They are what I plan to use in my 510 since I already have some precuts.

I went to cartos too because of the mess. Maybe I'm incompetent, too LOL...I just gave up and went that route. Got a box of yummy mandarine orange tea bags out of the deal so no harm, no foul. I spend a lot of time driving, so cartos were a better option over all anyway. I was starting to get very frustrated constantly underfilling or overfilling and having to fiddle with it all the time. I'm sure there's a learning curve, I just wasn't patient enough to tough it out...

I'll throw my endorsement for the blue foam in the ring. The only time I get leaking is when I decide to push how much I should fit in there. I know better, and i leak because of it. The other nice thing about the blue foam is that when you start getting that burned taste, it's usually because it's bone dry.

Thanks for everyones help. One follow up question - do you use the same cart over and over or do you eventually throw them away? I can't tell for sure, but it seems like my cart might be getting looser the longer its on there?

You aren't incompetent, just hang in there and you will get it worked out.

Check the bottom of the plastic carts and look for any signs of melting. If it is misshapen from melting, this might be why you are leaking. Throw it out and use a new cart. If you are using a cart and suddenly get a burning acrid taste, check and make sure you haven't melted your cart around the edges.

Sorry about your troubles. When I actually used the carts, thicker juice helped reduce leaking.

I gave up on all the cart stuff "long" ago, now I just drip. No more fussing with fillers, PTB, foam, leaking, flooding, alignment, etc. I think of it like... well, I had to mess with the ash on cigs, so I can mess with pulling off the cart (or using a drip tip) and dripping 3 drops in once in a while. Really reduced the "frustration factor" of e-cigs. 2 cents.

Hope you find a method that works for you!

I've ordered cartos, but made a huge discovery in the meantime waiting for them to arrive. VG. If I put 100% PG in a cart, it leaks. If I use a blend with 50% VG ... NO LEAKS!!!!!!!!! I vape the same way I used to smoke and I might take 10 his back to back. This seems to make the atty heat up and PG liquid leaks. I've been using a cart all night with a PG/VG mix ... AND IT HASN'T LEAKED ONE DROP!!!!!! I'm so freakin excited I can't see straight. But I guess I'm easy to please.

I have found 2 things that work for me!!

1. Bose cartomizers. I had to wait to get these in the mail...Came in this morning, I filled with 100% PG liquid, and it has not leaked a drop! Hooray!! I'm using the LR cartomizer with a 510 battery (which you probably aren't supposed to do), but it has been GREAT!!

2. VG liquid combined with blue foam mod. I find the blue foam mod prevents leaking where the cart meets the atty. I find that the thicker VG liquid prevents leaking where the atty meets the battery. Another ... Hooray!!
