Its wierd to hear youve never seen a twister because I was camping in nehamphsire and came face to face with one..
It was small but strong enough to tear a tree up at the roots and drop it on the trailer me my mom sister and brother and dog were in...I had to kick the door open because it crushed the door shut.. My mom still cries when it storms out, I also was victim of a micro burst that dropped a tree on my house and burned down the neighbors and destroyed a church in the center of town that fell on a poor old lady and killed her!

I've lived here for more than 20 years and only seen one tornado. Unfortunately my brothers home was flattened in the May 3rd tornado, stripped down to the foundation:(

A guy my husband works with had the same thing happen.. He lived close to Tinker. He had his house rebuild in the same spot... then the one came through and tore up part of GM and barely missed him.

I've seen a couple touch down in Sacramento area. So it's funny to hear you midwest-types say you've never seen one.

What's really crazy is we had a 4.1 earthquake a week or so ago... now that's really not fair... to live in tornado alley AND have earthquakes!

What's the world coming to.... tornado in LA (a few months ago) and earthquakes in Oklahoma.

I've personally seen two up close in my life, and that is two too many. One when I was a kid (permanently scarred), the other went right past us a few years ago. I know a lot of people who have been directly affected, and it is extremely devastating. Unfortunately, we can probably look forward to higher frequency and intensity with storms in the midwest in the coming years; I just pray the jet stream keeps them further south like last year - sorry OK and TX posters, but I am scared to death of the damn things :(

Hey PawPaw when did you live in Altus? That is where I'm from, lived there about 18 years or so. Have seen a few tornadoes growin up, but nothing too close.

I was only about 5 min ahead of the May 3rd storms on I-40 heading to Okmulgee that day. Was very ominous outside that day, and storms don't usually scare me too much, but that one looked down right nasty, so I didn't stop at the gas station I normally did, and I'm really glad I didn't.

I was stationed there for 2-1/2 years. 1976 - 78.

I'm not sure if this is the company that did ours several years ago, but we had a shelter like this installed. Storm Shelters and Tornado Shelters by FlatSafe, In-Home Storm and Tornado Shelter
For those with no basement or a high water table, this thing is perfect! Costs around $6k and two guys can install it in around 7 hrs.
Just in case someone was thinking what to do.

After May 3rd, my mom paid for storm shelters for all of us :D Better safe than sorry when you live where we do.....

My brother rebuilt in the same place, and so far, so good. He's in Moore. Isn't that where you are?
